JOB DESCIPTION
1. The cook's assistant or dietary aide is responsible for assisting the cook in the preparation of all foods needed to accurately serve meals (both regular and therapeutic diets) to residents of a long-term care facility.
2. The cook's assistant or dietary aide is responsible for following all policies and
procedures for safety, sanitation, and infection control in the food service department.
3. The cook's assistant or dietary aide is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils used in food preparation and service.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare foods assigned by the cook for regular and therapeutic diets, maintaining high standards of food quality, portion, and infection control.
- Serve trays for residents, using accurate portion control.
3. Clean and sanitize equipment and utensils used in food preparation.
4. Complete preparation of foods as indicated on the preparation guide.
- Prepare nourishment cart and between meal supplements.
- Wrap silverware.
- Set up trays cards.
- Assist the dishwasher, or, in the absence of the dishwasher, wash and store the dishes following all dishwashing and storage policies and procedures.
- Empty, clean, and replace liners for all trash cans in the food service department.
- Complete cleaning as indicated on the department cleaning schedule.
- Report equipment repairs needed to the dietary manager.
- Perform assigned duties as directed by the cook or the dietary manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS & HOURS
1. Work in well-lighted, well ventilated kitchen.
2. Exposed to hot and cold temperatures in kitchen and storage areas.
3. Subject to burns, cuts, and falls.
4. May need to lift heavy objects.
5. Stands and walks for most of the day.
6. Varied hours and days, including holidays and weekends.
