Description

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to about 400 students in grades 6 through 12, including international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory.

The Northwest School seeks an Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions to serve a critical role in the Admissions department. This position collaborates with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management in management of student recruitment efforts and application process for 6-12. 

Essential Functions:

  • Interview prospective students and their families
  • Evaluate several hundred applications and render admission recommendations
  • Plan and execute outreach with various stakeholders, including school visits, fairs, 
  • interviews, individual meetings, and more as needed
  • Use demographic and market studies to plan strategically for outreach and recruitment 
  • efforts in order to increase applicant pool
  • Serve as the school representative at admissions events including, but not limited, to fairs, 
  • open houses, and tours as needed. Some evenings and weekends will be expected with ample notice
  • Coordinate applicant decision making process for Middle School applicants, including as the primary connection for Rainier Scholars, following policies, standards, and committee structure determined by the Director of Enrollment Management
  • Support Director of Admissions and Enrollment in the coordination of the admissions calendar
  • Work closely with Division Directors, Registrar, and other key offices to assure a smooth transition for prospective and enrolled families
  • Contribute to the publications that are part of the recruitment and admissions efforts including, but not limited to, the viewbook, electronic publications, special handouts, and promotions for admissions events
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the admissions database, Ravenna, to assist with reporting and data analysis
  • Participate in school-wide events and activities as appropriate
  • Keep abreast of enrollment management strategies and trends by attending professional 
  • development conferences and workshops
  • Serve as the primary events coordinator for Admissions and Enrollment events including, 
  • Weekly Tours, Open House, Yield Events, and Orientations 
  • Serve as coordinator for Admissions Newsletters other applicant pool communications as assigned
  • Support annual admissions plan that includes daily operations, elevates diversity, 
  • equity and inclusion, and fosters a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and datadriven decision making
  • Support International and Boarding Applicants throughout the process including 
  • English Language Assessment, Interviews, and potential for international travel recruitment

 

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the schools mission, values, and 
  • philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and environmental sustainability 
  • A Bachelor degree and 3 years of related experience in Admissions, independent schools, and/or customer service management is preferred.
  • Experience with common school and admissions systems preferred including: 
  • Ravenna, Clarity, and Blackbaud. 
  • Experience with International students and families preferred, including experience 
  • with SEVIS and familiarity with I-20 and F-1 Visa processs.
  • High level of competence with MS Office suite, particularly Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and meet relevant deadlines 
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, take initiative, and apply sound judgment 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive, complex, and/or controversial situations 
  • Strong writing skills; experience in drafting agendas, correspondence, presentations, reports, and other written documents 
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills 
  • Self-starter with ability to work both independently and on collaborative teams 
  • Courteous, personable, and flexible with changing priorities; able to build and maintain effective working relationships 
  • Successful experience working with diverse populations and diverse working styles 
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, is highly organized and capable at utilizing technology, and is a clear thinker who troubleshoots problems and builds rapport with a variety of individuals with ease

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in admissions (higher ed, independent schools, etc)

Compensation:
Annual salary range of $68,000 - $73,000 based on skills and experience.
