Job Summary
The positions are responsible for coaching student-athlete/team strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition and to help them develop an appreciation of sports participation. Two positions are available for the upcoming fall & spring seasons – XC = August 19 – October 11, 2024, or Track & Field = March 10 – May 9, 2025.
Responsibilities include:
- Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the sport's rules, regulations, equipment, techniques, and tactics.
- Observe athletes during practice and competition to determine individual or team improvement needs.
- Determine game strategy based on the individual and team’s capabilities.
- Establish and maintain high standards of behavior and supervise athletes at all times.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Observe school, league, state, regional, and national athletic program regulations.
- Model positive behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards athletes, parents, officials, and spectators – practice good sportsmanship.
- Employ nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Assign duties to assistant coach(es) as necessary.

Job Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required)
Some experience as a head or assistant cross-country/track & field coach is preferred; however, running experience (sprints and/or distance) at the high school, college, semi-professional, or professional level would suffice. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must know the sport's rules, regulations, techniques, and strategies. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and student-athletes.

Job-Related Practice/Game Schedules
MS Varsity (7th-8th Grade)
Mondays and Wednesdays: 2:00 p.m. – 315 p.m. Thursdays: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
MS Junior Varsity (5th-6th-Grade)
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Job Timeline/Season Length (8 Weeks)
Fall or Spring Athletic Seasons: August 19 – October 11, 2024 or March 10 – May 9, 2025
Job Compensation
Nueva provides a competitive salary/stipend based on the practice and game schedule and the coaching assignment (Head Coach vs Assistant Coach). The overall stipend range is $1,500-$3,000. The salary is based upon, but not limited to, coaching/participation experience, licensing, certification, and overall education/knowledge in the sport.
