Position Available: Youth Advisor
Student Youth Advisor
Working as part of the Climate and Culture team, he/she will provide support for students to ensure they maximize their time in the classroom. Acting as mentors in the hallway, youth advisors will ensure students arrive to individual classes on time, are managing their emotions, and behave in a way that is consistent with our code of conduct. As students struggle in the classrooms or the hallways during transitions, he/she will provide necessary interventions designed to make sure the student can be successful for the remainder of the day. This position is open for the 2024-2025 school year.
Youth Advisor Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manage transitions.
- Support student climate and culture.
- Oversee student hallway traffic.
- Enforce uniform and mobile device policy.
- Work with students sent out of respective classrooms.
- De-escalate students who struggle with managing emotions.
- Provide support and interventions.
- Push into classrooms that are being disruptive.
- Escort students back to their respective classes.
- Conduct mediations with students.
- Assist with pre-suspension consequences.
- Develop and sustain positive relations with students.
- Attend regular meetings to coordinate school events.
- Provide crisis intervention for students.
- Support a restorative approach to discipline.
Skills:
- Leadership skills.
- Great communication and leadership skills.
- Passion to work with youth.
- Experienced in teamwork and working independently.
- Mindful of the needs of urban youth.
- Understanding of youth development principles.
Trainings and workshops:
- Use TCIS tools on crisis management.
- Saturday full training to include
- Trauma and pain-based behavior.
- Developing de-escalation skills.
- Understanding successful intervention techniques.
- Increasing a toolbox for approaching escalated youth.
- Application and practicing of learned skills.
- Restorative Justice practices.
- Learning how to conduct mediations.
- Preventing physical altercations.
- Conducting restorative circles.
- Empathizing with students displaying escalated behaviors.
- Providing inclusive and individualistic interventions.
- Applying the concepts of youth development.
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience and certification(s) $17.00-21.50
Note: All level 1 interviews will be held online using a Zoom platform or phone. Level 2 and 3 interviews will be done in person.
