The Weekapaug Inn offers quintessentially New England accommodations that effortlessly combine casual comfort and luxurious furnishings. The Inn features 31 unique guest rooms and 4 two-bedrooms signature suites. Farm-to-table dining utilizes the finest and freshest locally sourced ingredients, and inspired amenities and resort activities are designed to create extraordinary guest experiences.
The Watch Hill Inn established in 1845, Watch Hill Inn carries with it a unique history marked by fame, natural disasters and, among all, resilience. Chic, minimalist decor intertwines with cutting edge technology like complimentary Apple TV, Netflix and an in-room iPad program that allows guests to order food and services to their door with the touch of a button. The Inn features 21 suite style accommodations with unrestricted access to dining, amenities and resort activities at both Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn.
Scope of Position
The Seasonal Croquet Professional at Ocean House will maintain an engaging and visible presence with guests, serving as both a knowledgeable coach and welcoming ambassador. This role is centered on creating a memorable and enriching experience through instruction and play on the croquet lawn. The Instructor will offer guidance on the rules and techniques of the game while sharing the history and traditions of croquet as it relates to Ocean House and the sport’s classic charm.
In addition, this position supports the broader recreation program by fostering guest interaction, promoting scheduled events, and enhancing the spirit of leisure and hospitality that defines Ocean House. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching, thrives in guest-facing settings, and takes pride in delivering gracious, personalized service.
Hourly Staff Schedule Requirements
All employees are kindly asked to understand that the property operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, inclusive of all holidays. While the company will make every attempt to create a work and life balance, all hourly paid team members may be asked to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands. The busiest of days during the season (Memorial Day through Columbus Day) are the weekend days from Friday thru Sunday and on holiday weekends that are celebrated on Mondays, this can include Mondays. All seasonal staff must be aware and able to work all weekends; requesting time off for a holiday weekend may not and will likely not be granted. The more flexible you are the more you can learn, grow, earn.
Reporting Relationship
Internal: Reports to the Director of Front Office & Chef Concierge
External: Has regular contact with the companies, consultants, guests, members, shareholders, and directors of the Ocean House.

Required Job Knowledge and Skills
- Provide daily instruction, demonstrations, and informal play for guests of all ages and skill levels
- Maintain a visible and welcoming presence on the croquet lawn, ensuring an inviting and well-kept playing environment
- Educate guests on the history, rules, etiquette, and techniques of croquet in an engaging and accessible manner
- Promote and facilitate scheduled croquet events, matches, and tournaments
- Coordinate with the Ocean House Activities and Guest Relations teams to support the broader seasonal recreation program
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, stored, and inventoried
- Foster a gracious, service-oriented atmosphere consistent with Ocean House standards of luxury hospitality
- Remain knowledgeable about the property, upcoming events, and local attractions to serve as an informal ambassador for the guest experience
- Monitor safety and promote good sportsmanship at all times
- Fluency in English both verbally and in writing
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy under pressure of tense/confrontational situations
- Uphold the Company standards, policies, and procedures

Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in the game of croquet—either American six-wicket or golf croquet
- Ability to clearly explain game rules, techniques, and etiquette to beginners and seasoned players alike
- Comfortable leading groups, facilitating social interaction, and adapting instruction to various skill levels
- Enthusiastic, approachable, and professional demeanor with strong guest service orientation
- Ability to work outdoors and on your feet for extended periods
Physical Requirements:

Experience:
- Affiliation with the United States Croquet Association (USCA) or other recognized croquet organizations
- Participation in amateur or club-level tournaments or leagues
- Completion of USCA Croquet Instructor certification (or similar) is preferred.
- Prior experience as a croquet instructor, recreational sports coach, or in a guest-facing hospitality or resort activities role
- Experience hosting or organizing sports or leisure activities at luxury properties, private clubs, or resorts
- Familiarity with customer service best practices, especially within high-end service environments
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Additional coursework or a degree in hospitality, recreation, physical education, or a related field is preferred
