The Hazmat Delivery Driver is responsible for delivering customer orders in a productive, time sensitive and customer sensitive manner daily. Driver is responsible for transporting hazardous materials to customers while demonstrating safety, quality, and operational expertise. This position is responsible for proficiently performing at least two delivery related activities (e.g., multiple route knowledge, demonstrated expertise in delivery process and procedures, track activity and maintain records, ability to train associates in delivery functions, LEAN captain, Safety committee, etc.).
This Delivery Driver will be the onsite Company representative in the event of a release or spill of Fully Regulated Hazardous materials. They must be able to apply the knowledge/skill they have received via the HazMat endorsement and other Company training to ensure all applicable measures are taken at the scene, of a release. Additional they will be the primary contact with Law Enforcement and First Responders during an event, so they must be able convey information, take information, compile reports, deal with other parties and ensure all applicable Company policies are followed. This in turn will be utilized by various departments, within the Company, to ensure timely and efficient management of the situation. This key information and communication skill set is essential to this role.

- Driver ensures that materials are properly labeled, loaded, unloaded, and secured to ensure customers receive clean and damage free merchandise
- Driver must review the regulations regarding transportation of hazardous substances, including if permits are necessary anywhere along a planned route
- Delivers product to customer locations meeting established delivery goals. Collect and track customer returns within a specified time frame
- Operate delivery vehicles in a safe and lawful manner, properly securing cargo to prevent movement or spilling during transport. Responsible for the vehicle and its contents
- Complete daily route and maintain all appropriate paperwork. Communicate obstacles in Tier meeting that prohibit us from meeting our established goals
- Complete daily pre and post trip checklist
- Responsible for all deliveries where the Hazmat product meets or exceeds 26,000 lbs. as required
- Serve as onsite OD representative for all drivers in the event of a release or spill of Hazmat materials and the primary contact for law enforcement & first responders, as required
- High School diploma or equivalent education preferred
- Driving experience is not required but preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Experience in the use of pallet jacks, hand trucks and forklift preferred
- Valid driver’s license with Hazmat endorsement
- Accident-free driving record reflected during a rolling 36-month average
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), required for operating delivery vehicle with Hazmat product exceeding 26,000 lb.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) qualification
- Experience using POD or tablet device in the scanning of customer products.
- Familiarity with scanner and GIS devices preferred.
- Specific knowledge of special handling or dangerous handling spill response
- Proper classification of hazmat items and specific DOT requirements related to proper paperwork and load placarding
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using the English language (English competency)
- Basic product knowledge
- Knowledge of operation of power/mobile equipment
- Ability to understand addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Geographical knowledge of the delivery service area
- Ability to read and understand a map
- Ability to up sell
- Ability to transport single cartons up to 75 pounds as needed
- Ability to use manual pallet jacks to transport pallets of products up to 2,500 pounds
- Ability to work in all types of weather due to various climate changes
- Repetitive lifting of paper, continuous climbing in and out of vehicle
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time, continuous walking, including stairs
- Ability to meet physical qualifications
- Actively seek to support implementation of and contribute ideas and suggestions for continuous improvement to the delivery processes
- Communicate customer feedback to sales and/or supervisory personnel. Contribute ideas and suggestions for improvement utilizing LEAN practices
- May be assigned to participate on LEAN or Safety committees
