Position Title: Medical Billing Specialist
Immediate Supervisor: Office Manager
General Purpose: Responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies and/or patients for outstanding account balances.
Responsibilities:
· Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
· Follow up on all aged receivables, annotates accounts, and works to resolve outstanding balances.
· Answers questions from clients, patients, and/or insurance companies.
· Reviews accounts for possible assignment and makes recommendations to the Operations Manager, patient account representative and/or client, also prepares information for the collection agency.
· Process and work directly with coding staff on third party payor denials and ensure resubmittal as appropriate within 2 days of receipt.
· Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
· Knowledge of computer programs.
· Knowledge of business office procedures.
· Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
· Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
· Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.
· Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
· Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
· Must be well organized and detail-oriented.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
