What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Care Ombudsman Specialist position at The Office of the Ombudsman?
The purpose of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is to support and protect the rights, needs and choices of persons receiving services in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes and home health care. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program serves residents of long-term care facilities in Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby Counties.
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman’s mission is to:
- Advocate for residents in long-term facilities
- Empower residents in long-term facilities
- Investigate and resolve complaints
- Educate residents, their family members and the public
Duties of a Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO): Identifying concerns by taking information over the phone; visiting long term care consumers in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult group homes and in the community to investigate and resolve complaints; advocating for better quality care by educating providers and the public; documenting all work in electronic database; and participating in special projects as needed.
Skills Required:
· Bachelors Degree
· Motor vehicle and valid driver’s license
· Ability to communicate with the public through conversation and in writing
· Ability to keep accurate notes and current computer skills
· Ability to be objective, polite and inquisitive
· Negotiation and problem-resolution skills
· Knowledge of the aging network
In this position you will be working with residents and administrative personnel of long-term care facilities by telephone and in person during on-site visits and complaint investigation. Training will be provided in the office through a supervisory relationship, as well as by participation in State Long-Term Care Ombudsman trainings in Columbus and via Webinars.
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Ombudsman Specialist is a full-time 37 1/2 hour-a-week position.
Business related mileage is reimbursed.
