Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) Department of Pharmacy’s mission is to improve people’s lives through pharmacy practice innovation, comprehensive medication education, and collaborative clinical and practice research. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the order, receipt, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals throughout the OSUWMC. In addition, the Department is responsible to meet regulatory and enforcement requirements for the secure access of pharmaceuticals within the OSUWMC. The Department of Pharmacy operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, dispenses more than 12M doses per year, is responsible for ~ $500M in annual spend of pharmaceutical purchases and generates more $3B in annual revenue. This position will provide corporate inventory/procurement guidance for James Medication Access and James oncology infusion pharmacies.
Position Summary
The buyer supports the Department of Pharmacy with purchases of pharmaceutical supplies and services, assuring cost containment, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, directing end-users to approved products and vendors whenever possible. The buyer is responsible for daily processing of pharmaceutical supplies and services within the constraints of our primary and secondary vendor agreements, special requisitions and expediting orders if necessary in order to meet critical patient care and operational needs. They monitor electronic orders in real-time and take necessary actions to prevent potential delays and pricing issues. For James Medication Access the buyer will assist with ordering future use and replacement drug from manufacturer programs as well as managing inventory by checking for expired or unused drug, returning/destroying drug as dictated by program requirements, and sending inventory to the correct infusion location. This position will also be responsible for auditing patient hospital account records to ensure patients do not receive medication charges for medications provided by the medication assistance program.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred. 2-4 years’ experience in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field. 1-2 years’ experience in pharmacy operations or as a pharmacy technician. Registered as a pharmacy technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacy Technician certification (May receive after hire)
Ongoing: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field preferred. Relevant experience such as pharmaceutical care inventory management and/or purchasing. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Pharmacy Technician certification (May receive after hire).
