The Associate Vice President for Resource and Budget Management is a strategic advisor to the Executive Vice President and Provost (Provost) and provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction to align the allocation of resources with academic priorities.

Supported by the Office of Academic Affairs Business Services and Finance team, the Associate Vice President oversees fiscal and business operations for units that comprise the Office of Academic Affairs, including budgeting and resource management, efficient utilization of space, and the allocation of Provost’s strategic funds to support academic priorities.

The Associate Vice President partners with the Office of Business and Finance to strategically and efficiently allocate university resources and ensure appropriate financial stewardship of university resources. Represents the Provost on the Senate Fiscal Committee and other committees where strategic decisions are made regarding the budget model, financial policies, and oversight of the enterprise’s financial position. Partners closely with Business and Finance to monitor college and support unit budgets and intervenes proactively to address budgetary issues. Works closely with deans and fiscal officers on budgetary issues, faculty hiring plans and investments in the academic mission to ensure resources are utilized strategically, stewarded responsibly and aligned with academic priorities.

The Associate Vice President works closely with the Office of Administration and Planning and represents the Provost on university committees and participates in enterprise-wide planning related to the university’s capital planning process, classroom readiness, deferred maintenance, and college facility master plans.

Serves as an executive sponsor and representative of the Provost on major projects. Identifies and implements corrective actions to be taken when problems or risks are identified.

Collaborates with Strategic Enrollment Management and other student-oriented teams to ensure that student enrollment is tied to other strategic and academic resource needs (scholarship funding, faculty hiring, facilities, etc.).

Collaborates with Faculty Affairs team on faculty compensation and strategies related to faculty recruitment and retention.

Requirements

MBA or equivalent with experience

Progressively responsible experience in higher education administration; knowledge of university policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; financial analysis, forecasting and budgeting experience; spreadsheet and other standard business software experience; knowledge of university financials.

Sophisticated problem-solving, project management and decision-making skills required.


Extensive budget and fiscal management skills and experience required.


Ability to manage and perform effectively within a highly detailed, fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines while maintaining professionalism and quality for all phases of an initiative required.


A high degree of judgment and diplomacy and an impeccable commitment to confidentiality required.


Ability to navigate a complex and nuanced academic environment and anticipate the needs of the executive team required; knowledge of current trends in academia required.
