What are the responsibilities and job description for the Collections Project Assistant Archivist position at The Ohio State University?
The Collections Project Assistant Archivist assists with special underground comix collection project; organizes cataloged, uncatalogued and duplicate materials; and provides support with ongoing efforts to assess and acquire print materials. Position reports to Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum (BICLM) Public Services Associate Manager.

All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Arts or humanities or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2-years’ experience with special collections and rare books or equivalent library experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Sierra or similar library catalog system, MARC Catalog records, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Teams.
- Thorough knowledge of Special Collections materials handling.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing materials according to Library of Congress Call Number order.
- Demonstrated skills in project management and library collections organization.
- Must be willing to work with possible moldy or pest-infested items and use personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills, including complex problem solving.
- Punctual, flexible, and dependable.
- Ability to work effectively and creatively in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to perform tasks accurately with close attention to detail.
- Ability to work with mature content.
- Must be able to work in temperatures of 62 degrees Fahrenheit and lift 40 lbs. and push carts weighing up to 80 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Desired:
- Two to four years of experience with special collections of rare books or equivalent library experience.
- Ability to work successfully with others and to communicate complex matters to diverse audiences in an effective manner.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible; creativity in analyzing and solving problems.
- Knowledge of or interest in comics and cartoon history.
- An interest in and familiarity with the history of American popular culture, especially as it relates to cartoon art.
- Demonstrated professional knowledge and experience with Underground Comix.
This is a term position lasting up to 18-months. This position is expected to work on-site on the Columbus campus.
Posting Range
The posting range for this job is $47,200-$50,000.
