School of Music, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Community Music School Manager to join our team. The Community Music School Manager will provide comprehensive leadership and strategic direction for efforts focused on outreach and engagement in the University District and neighborhoods adjacent to The Ohio State University; impacting thousands of students, long-term residents, City of Columbus partners, and a variety of additional stakeholders. This position will collaborate with the School of Music’s administrative team to oversee compliance with school policies and procedures that align with the school's mission and vision; recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of music instructors to ensure that they provide engaging and effective lessons to students; foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the growth and development of students and instructors; act as a liaison between students, parents, and instructors to ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed in a timely and professional manner; collaborate with community organizations and schools to develop and foster partnerships that promote the school's mission to promote and support a healthy, positive, and safe environment, and expand its reach in the community; develop and implement strategies to increase enrollment, retain students, and improve student outcomes; manage the community music school's budget and resources effectively to ensure financial sustainability and growth; and ensure relevant components of the departmental website are kept up to date.
This position is also responsible for management of the School’s Youth Summer Music Programs (YSMP); planning the Opus 88 outreach initiative through the State of Ohio; and management and development of Fostering Empathy and Resilience through Music and the Therapeutic Arts (FERMATA), a new partnership program to develop opportunities for music students to actively perform in medical facilities on campus and in the region. The management of the YSMP encompasses overseeing all YSMP leadership activities, including: the development and strategic planning of the YSMP budget, coordination and creation of communication materials between the YSMP and the Community Music School, event planning and staff coordination, partnership with human resources in hiring and additional compensation requests, adhering to university policy and compliance, development of communication and marketing strategies, and management of daily YSMP operations. Leadership of the Opus 88 program includes coordinating and scheduling School of Music student and faculty performances and engagements through all 88 counties in the state of Ohio, tracking the initiative’s progress, developing plans for initiating trips, collaborating with the school’s fiscal team on budgeting, and collaborating with the university and college advancement teams to further develop financial support for the program. Management of FERMATA includes planning and coordination of all aspects of School of Music performances at the James via the Heather Pick Music Performance Program, starting with weekly hour-long performances at the James and expanding to other hospital locations.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in music or related field. 3 years of relevant experience in music teaching, administration, including hiring, managing, and evaluating instructors; strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, instructors, and community partners; knowledge of music education pedagogy, curriculum development, and assessment.
