Position Description:

Expanding the SAY R.E.A.C.H. with resources for education and adoption into classrooms and outreach programs

The Agricultural Safety and Health Program in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at Ohio State University seeks a highly creative and motivated person to carry out workforce development training specifically in the area of agricultural safety and health. The focus is on professional development for adults working or training students and adolescent workers. The person will coordinate efforts of the national Safety in Agriculture for Youth (SAY) Program to create awareness and synergy with SAY activities, research and outreach education. This position will assist national project administrators with marketing, evaluation, capacity building, and expanding the reach of youth safety and health resources throughout the U.S.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Assist with designing and creating professional development activities to advance competency in students and educators.

Candidate will prepare, deliver, and evaluate seminars, conference seessions, and train-the-trainer workshops for youth tractor and machinery safety/certification programs at local, state and national levels. Candidate will prepare translational resources via factsheets, social media and outreach education curriculum for agricultural audiences in formal and non-formal education settings. Candidate will interpret public policy documents for lay audiences in the area of youth labor, specifically agriculture. Coordinate national efforts for synergy and advancement of youth safety workforce development.

Candidate will network and build partnerships with state boards of education, state extension systems, federal labor and safety agencies, national advisory boards, and agricultural commodity groups and associations. Candidate will work collaboratively with national SAY objectives and other local/state/national programs supporting the mission and advancement of workforce development of young agricultural workers, including the development of a national marketing plan. Conduct evaluation studies and assist with data management and monitoring. Candidate will develop and conduct a national needs assessment of tractor and machinery safety/certification programs following research standards.

Candidate will collaborate with team members to prepare research results for publication in reports and journals, and present at conferences and workshops. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Bachelors degree or professional license in agricultural or extension education; agricultural or occupational safety; public health; agricultural systems management; or related fields.

Candidates must have 4 years related working experience, or a demonstrated understanding, of teaching and learning principles, training experience, and curriculum development standards. Candidates should have the ability to write grant proposals and lead project efforts, including progress reports, budget management, scholarly presentations and scientific papers. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates should possess some level of knowledge for conducting ethical research and the ability to use statistics for program evaluation. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to work independently and in local, state, and national team environments. Candidates will work from Ohio State University campuses and must have the ability to travel.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 4 years related experience
