What are the responsibilities and job description for the HPC Datacenter Analyst position at The Ohio State University?
The HPC Datacenter Analyst provides physical hardware support and maintenance for the Ohio Supercomputer Center’s High Performance Computer (HPC) infrastructure. The analyst, part of the Operations Team, works with HPC hardware at a large scale, maintaining the physical infrastructure, running network cables, troubleshooting hardware and network issues, repairing server hardware and maintaining an inventory of spare parts and network cables.
The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) accelerates discovery for Ohio’s academic and commercial researchers by providing accessible, reliable and secure HPC power at a fraction of the cost of alternatives, along with expert consultation and secure storage.
The Operations Team works collaboratively to diagnose problems and maintain infrastructure. This position, which reports to the HPC Operations Manager, works primarily at the State of Ohio Computer Center (SOCC) (1320 Arthur E. Adams Drive, Columbus, Ohio). While this position is primarily on-site, a hybrid work arrangement is available.
The responsibilities of the position include:
Hardware maintenance on server infrastructure
Hardware troubleshooting and repair
Network cabling and monitoring
Vendor support relationship management
Inventory and documentation
Participating in an on-call rotation and other duties as assigned
This position is on day shift with occasional after-hours support.

Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum of two years of experience working as a data center analyst (or similar position).
Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently, as circumstances warrant.
Ability to follow through with assignments and commitments in a timely and professional manner.
Strong organizational skills as well as interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Experience diagnosing and repairing computer hardware.
Experience running network cables, both copper and fiber.
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Desired Education/Experience:
Experience in system and related network administration of complex computer systems, specifically Linux systems and preferably Linux clusters.
