What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska?
SUMMARY: To perform skilled work in keeping the premises of the Early Head Start & Head Start Facility, grounds, and vehicles in clean, safe, and orderly condition. Performs custodial and maintenance duties in various areas of the EHS/HS facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Must be able to report to work as schedule directs.
- Must notify supervisor by 6:45 a.m. if unable to work.
- Mandatory reporter of all incidents of child abuse and neglect.
- Uphold confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
- Handles confidential information with discretion concerning all children, families, and Early Head Start & Head Start related activities.
- Attends training classes and Early Head Start & Head Start in-service orientation.
- CUSTODIAL
- Daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash.
- Checks and replenishes bathroom and classroom supplies (paper towels, facial tissue, hand soap, disinfectant, sanitizer, etc.) as needed.
- Assist the Facilities/Transportation Coordinator with inventory control of all cleaning supplies, tools, and cleaning equipment.
- Schedules and assists with monthly carpet cleaning.
- Assists Facilities Coordinator with seasonal deep cleaning and maintenance of building interior and exterior (i.e. Floor waxing, carpet cleaning, pressure wash building, etc.).
- Ensure that safety and health procedures are followed as directed by policy.
- Perform daily routine inspections and regular upkeep of interior and exterior areas to ensure areas are free of safety hazards, trash, weeds, and other foreign materials.
- Maintains records of planned and completed maintenance on cleaning equipment (Kaivac, vacuums, carpet extractor, floor machines).
- Review manufacturer's service manuals and keep records of maintenance problems to determine the optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.
- Assists with all deliveries.
- MAINTENANCE
- Assists Facilities Coordinator with all lawn care and landscaping needs (mowing, weed control, watering lawn, etc.).
- Assists Facilities Coordinator with snow removal (driveways, sidewalks, and playground areas).
- Assists the Transportation Coordinator in pressure washing and cleaning school buses and company vehicles.
- Submits to Facilities Coordinator recommendations for painting, repairs, relocation of equipment and allocation of space.
- Repairs and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, shelving, etc. as needed.
- Assist with moving office and classroom furniture, fixtures, and equipment to support increasing staffing changes, relocations, remodels, program expansion and custodial requirements.
- Miscellaneous minor maintenance: (i.e. changing filters, unclogging toilets, daylight bulbs, ceiling tile, etc.)
- Assist with training and event set-ups.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required or recommended by supervisor Facilities/Transportation Coordinator.
- Respond to on-call custodial/minor maintenance emergencies outside of regular assigned hours to assist the Facilities Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience in the Maintenance field is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be in good physical health, and free from communicable diseases.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Nebraska Driver's license and good driving record.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification and keep it valid.
- Certificate of training in the Maintenance field preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate various cleaning and maintenance equipment.
