Summary

The Omega Dining Hall is a large full-scale food production facility. We produce and serve up to 2500 plant-based meals per day as well as breads and desserts for both the Dining Hall and the Omega Café.

The Dining Services Manager is responsible for overseeing scheduling and managing the staff, as well as maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of the Dining Hall and dish room at all times. The Manager sets and holds a professional tone, facilitates training, holds staff accountable to their roles, and strives to sustain a fulfilling work experience. The Manager ensures the service, presentation, and clean-up of the Main, Staff, and Faculty dining areas as well as positive guest interactions.

Essential Functions

  • Work in close conjunction with Executive Chef and People & Culture Dept. to manage Dining Hall ‘employee life cycles’: interviewing, hiring and onboarding, training, promotions, and evaluations.
  • Create an efficient and functional team; familiarizing the staff with all Food & Beverage policies/procedures, leading by example and encouraging collaboration between team members
  • Ensure that staffing changes are aligned with current staff budget.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date staff files, including schedules, communications, performance records, and documentation of corrective conversations, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and confidentiality.
  • Integrate Omega’s core values and manager feedback into work performance.
  • Hold staff accountable by providing regular feedback, implementing corrective measures when necessary.
  • Follow and enforce New York State Department of Health codes, as well as all H.A.C.C.P. regulations for storage and cooling.
  • Coordinate participant dietary accommodations with Executive Chef and Receiving Manager.
  • Oversee and support Dining Hall and dishwashing team production and maintenance in all areas.
  • Attend weekly campus Managers’ meeting and Food & Beverage Managers’ meeting.
  • Lead regular Dining Hall meetings and hold space for staff ideas and upward feedback.
  • Create and maintain a professional work atmosphere.
  • Maintain and respect healthy boundaries with managers, coworkers, program participants and community members.
  • Prioritize the Dining Hall service experience.
  • Maintain dish inventory, including monitoring breakage, anticipating needs for special events, and working with Executive Chef to accommodate changes in service presentation.
  • Work with Event Services, Registration and other departments to arrange for special accommodations and event orders.
  • Oversee and support Dining Hall and dishwashing team production and maintenance in all areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position supervises the entire Dining Hall staff including Assistant Managers, Shift-Coordinators, Lead Servers, Servers, and volunteer Greeter positions;

o Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Dining Hall.

o Directly supervise and support the development of leadership skills among the Assistant Manager(s) and the Shift Coordinators.

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies.

o Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Details

  • This position functions in Omega’s Kitchen/Dining Hall on the Omega campus.
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Food & Beverage staff are expected to have availability to work on weekdays and at least one weekend day each week. Schedules may vary based on operational needs, and flexibility is essential to ensure adequate coverage during peak times and events.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently move items that weigh 30-50 pounds for various needs.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Ability to traverse a hilly campus in diverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to position self to perform diverse job tasks as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, and ability to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to observe details at close range.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness, and in a safe manner.

Required Experience/Qualities

  • Three or more years of management experience.
  • ServSafe Certified (preferred).
  • Timely, reliable, and service oriented individual.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Team player.
  • Alignment with Omega’s mission, goals, and core values.

Compensation

Seasonal staff work full-time. Seasonal staff receive a compensation package that includes:

  • Hourly Wage
  • One delicious meals during each work shift
  • Access to Omega’s team member benefits

  • This compensation package is at minimum equivalent to the New York State minimum wage.
