What are the responsibilities and job description for the Server position at The Onion?
Status: Non-Exempt; hourly
Reports To: Manager
Position Overview: The Server is the primary contact the Guest has with our company; therefore, how he or she represents Landmark Restaurants goes a long way in determining whether the Guest will become a loyal customer. The Server is also the primary sales person; therefore, a thorough knowledge of our products is critical. The Server is also responsible for ringing in orders, handling payment, and seeing to the needs of your Guests.
Pay Range: $16.28 tips

Our #1 Goal: Our dominant business purpose is to exceed the Guests expectations and personally cause them to return. The Server must make this a daily commitment. It's the #1 reason we come to work each day.
Responsibilities: Upholds company mission and philosophy.
Serves Guests in a prompt, courteous manner, in accordance with the standards and procedures outlined in the Server Workbook.
Promotes sales. Has a thorough understanding of the restaurant’s products.
Takes food and beverage orders accurately from Guests. Processes Guests’ orders and ensures accuracy of items. Serves courses promptly, within timing standards.
Maintains section according to service standards. Performs setup and sidework duties in an efficient and accurate manner. Helps to maintain cleanliness of restaurant.
Works as a member of the team to serve Guests. Maintains positive, upbeat, and energetic attitude toward Guests and coworkers. Assists others whenever able.
Maintains highest standards of hygiene and sanitation. Follows Health Department standards for hygiene and safe food handling. Maintains current Food Handlers Permit.
Adheres to state liquor regulations in serving alcohol. Has current Liquor Permit on person when working.
Works toward ensuring profitability by controlling waste, promoting sales, and ensuring all ordered items are rung in.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for Cocktail Servers).
Excellent physical coordination. Attention to detail.
Courteous and Guest First attitude. Team player.
High energy level; stamina; handles pressure well.
Dependable and reliable. Flexible schedule, when necessary.
Personal cleanliness.
Excellent verbal communication. Able to speak, read, and understand English. Able to perform simple mathematical calculations and handle money.
Physical Requirements:
Able to move throughout all areas of the restaurant.
Able to lift up to 25 pounds on a tray. Good sense of balance.
Able to climb ladders and stairs.
Stamina; able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for several hours at a time.
