COMPENSATION: $50-60,000/year

The OpEd Project is a social venture and leadership organization, founded to change who writes history. We are a community of journalists, thought leaders, and change agents who actively share knowledge, resources, and connections across color, creed, class, sexuality, gender, ability, and beyond. Through our nationally-recognized curriculum, our team of journalist mentors, and through a portfolio of programs in partnership with leading institutions across the nation and the globe, we accelerate the ideas and impact of underrepresented voices, including women of all backgrounds. ABOUT THE ROLE:
The OpEd Project is looking for a superstar that engages and elevates the voices of participants in and around our public programs.
The Community Experience Associate will join our team of passionate, digitally-savvy and visionary producers and program managers, who work in tandem with our journalist facilitators and coaches to deliver The OpEd Project’s world-class programs - including our flagship Write to Change the World Workshops, Public Voices Fellowships, and more. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Experience, the Community Experience Associate provides front-facing and behind-the-scenes support for our world-class core workshop and public programs as part of a team of highly-skilled facilitators and editorial coachesMost of these programs are now 100% virtual, however some are in person and require travel.
Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, we will produce 36 public, virtual workshops, roughly 50 Ask a Journalist Office Hours, 12 Expert Talks with leaders in our community, and 10 orientations with our incredible Ambassadors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Community Experience Associate will work alongside the Experience team at The OpEd Project to amplify underrepresented voices. This role provides public-facing production support in virtual workshops and webinars, and has vital internal responsibilities.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Serving as first point of contact for those seeking to learn more about The OpEd Project’s mission and work
- Managing Ask a Journalist Office Hours
- Ensuring all public programs are published on Eventbrite
- Creating impact reports for alums of the core “Write to Change the World” workshop
- Supporting with recruitment and management of volunteer Ambassador pipeline
- Supporting Experience team in updating program materials
COMMON TASKS:
- Host, update materials, and select drafts for weekly Ask a Journalist Office Hours
- Produce virtual programs, such as public and private “Write to Change the World” workshops
- Respond to inquiries sent to the Contact Form and front-facing inbox
- Send Ambassador invitations to stand-out alums of our core workshop
- Publish public programs on Eventbrite and schedule reminder emails
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Ability to maintain a warm, inviting on-camera presence while multitasking during live Zoom events
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate information into next steps
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent judgment – knows when to act and when to consult others before acting
- Nimble and driven – can identify problems and solutions quickly
- Tech savviness and desire to use technology both to connect with people and to streamline/automate work
- Demonstrable creativity and resourcefulness
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current or prior Public Voices Fellow or alum of “Write to Change the World”
- Minimum two years experience of community organizing or event management for a mission-driven organization
- Die-hard champion of The OpEd Project’s mission
- Experience producing Zoom events
- Experience using Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Project management experience and/or coordinating processes from start to finish
- Experience using Eventbrite a plus
