What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Program Specialist position at The Open Window School?
Open Window School is a K-8 independent school on Cougar Mountain, centrally located between Bellevue, Issaquah, and Newcastle. For 5 weeks during the summer, Open Window runs an exciting summer program for students entering Kindergarten through 7th grade within the local community.
The Camp Specialist is responsible for planning, preparing, and leading activities within their area of expertise (Nature, STEM, Arts & Crafts, Music, or Sports). This role ensures that campers are engaged, safe, and able to explore new interests while fostering teamwork and personal growth.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Expertise in one of the following areas: Nature, STEM, Arts & Crafts, Music, or Sports
- Training and experience in your specialty area (must be documented)
- Strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills
- Experience working with children in an organized setting preferred
- Enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor
- College-aged individuals or graduates preferred
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement daily, engaging activities for your specialty area
- Lead hands-on lessons for campers while ensuring their safety
- Supervise and collaborate with counselors to deliver effective programming
- Maintain and organize materials and equipment for activities
- Conduct pre-season and end-of-season inventories of equipment
- Provide feedback on camper progress and engagement
- Communicate with administrative staff regarding scheduling and safety concerns
- Attend pre-season training, staff meetings, and perform duties as required
Work Conditions:
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors, adapting to various weather conditions
- Physical stamina to lead activities and manage supplies
- Practice discretion in conversations with campers and staff
Position Details:
Manager: Summer Auxiliary Programs Manager
Compensation: $1700 per week
Position Classification: Seasonal; June 23-August 1
Hours: 7:30-4:00; 8:30-5:00; or 9:30-6:00 exact schedule will be determined between employee and manager
Training: Summer Camp Specialists are required to attend the in-person training session at Open Window School - June 23-27.
