Job Summary

The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) will ensure the general safety and security of our community and staff. This role requires a strong presence, excellent observation skills, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency or crisis situations. Additionally, the CIS must engage others with compassion and dignity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the community and monitor security cameras to maintain safety and security; able to determine if something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, and take a proactive approach to address the concern
  • Greet visitors, verify their identity, and determine their business need to access the community
  • Engage with clients in a respectful and compassionate manner to build rapport; Provide clients with program information, guidance, and support.
  • Respond to conflicts or disputes among community members leveraging de-escalation techniques, mediation, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments to help address the complex needs of clients and ensure the overall safety and security of the community and staff.
  • Provide supportive community services based on traditional community-policing principles utilizing person-centered, strengths-based, trauma informed, and a harm-reduction perspective.
  • Provide first aid or rescue assistance in emergencies; Dispatch and collaborate with emergency services and responders. Must be able to remain calm in an emergency situation
  • Document incidents, observations, and interventions accurately, thoroughly, and timely; must adhere to organizational confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications And Skills

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a security or clinical health setting
  • Exceptional surveillance and observation skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, engagement skills, de-escalation, and conflict mediation with a challenging population or in a stressful environment
  • Ability to collaborate and problem-solve
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by our carrier
  • Basic computer skills
  • Reliable transportation and attendance

Physical Demand Description

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs or ladder, and type (computer)
  • Ability to speak, hear, and see (during the day or nighttime)
  • Lift up to 35lbs

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED or above
  • Experience working with individuals who are homeless and/or at risk of homelessness
  • Knowledge of Harm Reduction principles and practices
  • Knowledge of legal guidelines for patrolling
  • Valid security guard licenses and/or certification
  • Familiarity with report writing

Salary

$24.12/hour (Annualized $50,169)

Employment Status and Schedule

Full-Time, 40 hours/week

3rd Shift: 11PM-7AM (5 consecutive work days)

Our facilities run on a 24/7 schedule. Your assigned shift may fall on a weekend or holiday. We offer a 10% differential pay for weekends and hours between 7PM- 7AM. We offer double time for worked holidays.
