The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the summer camp program.
This role involves facilitating experiential education-based camp activities, ensuring camper safety, and delivering a high-quality camp experience that aligns with the organization’s mission. The ideal candidate is highly organized, energetic, and passionate about working with children and staff in a dynamic outdoor or recreational setting. The organization facilitates five-day camps along with two-day mini-camps, which include overnights and a variety of recreational activities. These activities take place in wilderness settings and include water sports, backpacking, rock climbing, and biking.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Implementation
- Assist in facilitating engaging and age-appropriate experiential education-based camp activities,
including recreational, educational, and team-building programs.
- Support the development of daily and weekly schedules that provide a balance of structured and
free-choice activities.
- Ensure all camp activities align with the camp’s mission, values, and safety guidelines.
- Support overnight and wilderness-based activities, ensuring proper risk management and safety
protocols are followed.
Camper Experience & Safety
- Establish a safe and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Address and resolve behavioral or medical concerns in collaboration with staff and health
personnel.
Logistics & Administration
- Assist in managing camp logistics, including site setup, transportation coordination, and gear
inventory/prep.
Communication & Outreach
- Serve as a point of contact for parents, ensuring clear and timely communication.
- Foster relationships with community partners, vendors, and stakeholders to enhance the camp
experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Ability to work well independently and be part of a team.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Must be comfortable managing groups of children in an outdoor setting.
- Possess the skills and understanding to effectively interact with and support participants from different
backgrounds, cultures, abilities, and socioeconomic levels.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- A reliable form of transportation to and from program pick up location(s) and office.
- Flexibility to work where necessary, evenings and/or overnight.
- Previous experience in summer camps, youth programming, or related roles.
- Ability to work in outdoor and physically active environments, including overnight stays in wilderness
settings.
- Certifications from accredited institutions such as the American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA),
American Canoe Association (ACA), Aerie, and National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) are welcome; specific interest in AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certifications or apprentices is preferred.
- Willingness to maintain any current guiding certifications. Interest in pursuing additional certifications
preferred but not required (current certifications not required).
- Current Pediatric and Adult CPR and First Aid certification (reimbursement provided if attained)
- Must pass PA State Act 151 Child Abuse, PA State Act 34 Criminal Background Check, and FBI
- Background check and complete Mandated Reporter training (reimbursement provided).
