Job Summary:
The Outing Club Assistant Summer Camp Director is responsible for assisting the Camp
Director in the overall management and operation of our eight week youth summer camp. This full-time, hourly position involves working closely with the Camp Director to plan and implement a wide range of activities, programs, and services to create a safe, fun, and enriching experience for campers. The Assistant Director will help supervise staff, develop schedules, coordinate logistics, manage resources, communicate with parents/guardians, and ensure compliance with camp policies and procedures.
Dates of 2023 Camp: June 26 - August 18
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 7:30am - 5pm
*Counselors will be expected to participate in training sessions and camp setup on the following dates:
- Jun 12, 2023 - Jun 23, 2023 - Pre-camp Planning
- Jun 10, 2023 - Counselor Training
- Jun 24, 2023 & Jun 25, 2023 - 2023 Summer Camp Setup
Age Requirement: 18
Location(s): The Outing Club Indoor Center, Woodward Park, Bucklin Beach & Elkins Beach
(town of New London)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred).
- NH Child Care Site Director certification
- Prior experience working in a summer camp or youth program, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Ability to work full-time hours, including weekends and evenings as required by the camp schedule.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations and effectively communicate with parents/guardians, staff, and campers.
- Knowledge of child development, youth programming, and recreational activities.
- Ability to maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude in a fast-paced, dynamic camp environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Ability to pass a background check and other screening requirements as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Camp Director in planning, organizing, and implementing camp programs, activities, and events to ensure a safe, engaging, and positive camp experience for campers.
- Help supervise camp staff, including counselors, support staff, and volunteers, by providing guidance, feedback, and support to ensure quality care and supervision of campers.
- Assist in staff training and development, including orientation, workshops, and ongoing coaching, to ensure that staff are well-prepared and able to meet the needs of campers.
- Collaborate with the Camp Director to develop and implement camp policies and procedures, including safety protocols, emergency procedures, and behavior management strategies.
- Assist in managing camp logistics, such as transportation, food service, equipment, supplies, and facilities, to ensure smooth operations and efficient use of resources.
- Provide support in communication and coordination with parents/guardians, including answering questions, addressing concerns, and providing updates on camp activities and camper progress.
- Participate in camp meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions as required to stay informed and engaged in camp operations.
- Assist in evaluating camp programs and services to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed to enhance the overall camp experience.
- Adhere to camp policies and procedures, including safety guidelines, code of conduct, and child protection policies, to maintain a safe and positive camp environment.
- Provide backup support to the Camp Director in their absence and perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or camp management.
