The Paley Center for Media, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with locations in New York and Los Angeles, leads the discussion about the cultural, creative, and social significance of television, radio, and emerging platforms for the professional community and media-interested public.

 

Drawing upon its curatorial expertise, an international collection, and close relationships with the leaders of the media community, the Paley Center examines the intersections between media and society. The general public can access the Paley Archive – including special African-American, Hispanic, LGBT, Women’s and Music collections – and participate in programs that explore and celebrate the creativity, the innovations, the personalities, and the leaders who are shaping media.

 

Through the global programs of its Media Council and International Council, the Paley Center also serves as a neutral setting where media professionals can engage in discussion and debate about the evolving media landscape.

Scope:

The Paley Center for Media is seeking enthusiastic and outgoing Visitor Services Associates to join the Visitor Services team. Visitor Service Associates play a critical role in creating a welcoming, safe, positive, friendly, and meaningful experience for all guests. This position will also support the day-to-day management of the Visitor Services Department including, but not limited to, phone coverage, box office/ticketing, guest services, and other duties as assigned.  The ideal candidate for this position is outgoing and energetic, with excellent communication and customer service skills. Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on event schedules is required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Sets the tone for a positive guest experience at The Paley Center for Media, maintaining a friendly and professional manner, presence, and appearance at all times on-premises
  • Be knowledgeable of and able to effectively communicate information to visitors about the institution, programming, and events
  • Answers general Library, organizational and membership inquiries; directs or escalates questions from scholars to management or the appropriate departments
  • Assists all visitors and members with their ticketing and other needs, including intake, admissions, screenings, and other events.
  • Oversees front desk:
  • Manage the incoming calls for the Institution.
  • Assists with box office prep for programming including creation of ticket pages for daily use
  • Acts as a Library Resource:
  • Welcomes visitors to the Library and assigns them to a machine
  • Walks visitors through the database and assists with search needs
  • Participates in event administration and logistics:
  • Provides an array of guest services at events: Usher, Ticket Taker, and Coat Check
  • Manages general admission, ADA, and assigned theater seating
  • Monitors and maintains theater and venue safety and fire safety protocols
  • Organizes and manages coat check, racks, closet, tickets, and general duties
  • Educates and encourages guests and visitors to follow health and safety procedures
  • Handles other duties or projects as assigned

Requirements

  • A minimum education level of High School Diploma or its equivalency
  • Prior customer service and administrative experience including guest service experience at a theatre, museum or other public space is ideal
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks proficiently with very strong attention to detail and follow up
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and additional CRM or ticketing platforms a plus
  • An interest in media and entertainment
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours and overtime, as needed
