Responsibilities & Qualifications


JOB SUMMARY:

Greet and seat all guests. Answer phones and take reservations. Assist in overall service to guests following The Palms Hotel & Spa Standards and adhering to the hotels’ sustainability guidelines.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
  • Seat guests according to reservations and walk-ins.
  • Seat guests by finding a clean, available table; pulling out chairs; placing clean/current menu in front of guest, etc.
  • Manage waiting list and seating chart when necessary.
  • Ensure place settings are appropriate and each guest has a napkin, clean silverware, and any other item that is part of the standard place setting.
  • Take accurate reservations.
  • Answer various questions from guests, such as questions regarding Essensia restaurant directions to restaurant, special promotions, etc.
  • Check floor and tables for accuracy and cleanliness.
  • Assist with bussing tables as needed.
  • Assist Guest with Menus.
  • Assist guest with seating.
  • Greet guests and determine the number in their party.
  • Guide guests through the dining rooms and provide any needed assistance.
  • Move and arrange tables, chairs, and settings and organize seating for groups with special needs.
  • Check menus to ensure they are current, clean, plentiful, and wrinkle-free.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures, as well as recycling, water and energy conservation.
  •  Monitor dining rooms for seating availability, service, safety, and well-being of guests
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards
  • Assist in covering the gift shop as needed.
  • Take room service calls and orders (if necessary).

 

 

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to customer complaints and special requests and report any issues to M.O.D.
  • Maintain highest level of customer service and guest satisfaction, according to the standards set forth by The Palms Hotel and Spa
  • Attend all meetings/trainings related to F&B
  • Ensure compliance with health and sanitation policies in all areas
  • Adhere to all fire, safety, and security procedures according to hotel policy
  • Adhere to all sustainability guidelines as per the Inspired by Nature Program

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be courteous
  • Show genuine care for all co-workers and guest(s)
  • The ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in the English language. Second language is an asset.
  • Must be able to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, ever-changing environment.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Customer service skills
  • Possesses excellent people skills, an energetic personality and superior listening skills.
  • Has strong orientation towards customer service with a special focus on etiquette.
  • The ability to always be courteous, friendly and professional. 
  • A true desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  •  Needs to be able to speak English.
  • Ability to work well alone and in a team.

 

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous work experience as a hostess or similar role
  • High school diploma is a plus
  • Basic computer skills

WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Most of the time spent standing, walking or there are some requirements to lift moderate weight (10-20 pounds)
  • Typically located in a comfortable area. There may be regular exposure to mild discomfort from factors such as dust, odors, extreme temperature, inclement weather, noise, or lights
