Responsibilities & Qualifications
JOB SUMMARY:
Complete responsibility for maintaining the hotel's appearance, equipment, and systems. This position entails active management in supervising all work and repairs being performed. The incumbent will manage projects, oversee preventive maintenance schedules, manage vendor contracts, and participate in our energy conservation initiatives. The Chief Engineer is expected to have direct involvement with guests and relate to all levels of the Hotel. This is a hands-on position that requires active leadership.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the efficient operations of all mechanical equipment, the safety and cleanliness of all guest and staff areas, and the overall condition of the hotel following all Local, State, and Federal laws and brand compliance.
- Responsible for the presentation, maintenance, cleanliness, and presentation of the guest rooms, meeting space, restaurants, and all public areas so they are in the best possible condition.
- This position oversees the maintenance team, landscaping/grounds, facility and pool maintenance.
- Responsible for hiring, training, counseling, and performance reviews of all the Engineering team members.
- Delegate work requests and manage inventories and inspections of the Hotel.
- Maintain accurate logs, PM logs, and the daily activity logs.
- Ensure that the property is in full compliance with relevant OSHA standards.
- Check work order assignments in a timely fashion in order of priority.
- Work closely with vendors and contractors to provide the Hotel with maximum efficiency within budgetary and contractual guidelines.
- Manage project assignments as requested by the General Manager
- Work with other Leaders to achieve guest and employee engagement.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the highest level of customer service and guest satisfaction according to the standards set forth by The Palms Hotel and Spa
- Ensure compliance with health and sanitation policies in all areas
- Adhere to all fire, safety, and security procedures according to hotel policy
- Adhere to all sustainability guidelines as per the Inspired by Nature Program
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Working knowledge of essential hand tools and other trade-related equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and application for working with chemicals and practicing OSHA safety standards on all applicable jobs.
- Knowledge of safe work practices. Ability to train subordinates in proper safe work practices.
- Visual ability to read manufacturer’s instructions, schematics and blueprints and to determine wire colors for safe repair and detect emergencies.
- Adhere to all procedures stated in the employee handbook.
- Attention to detail and skilled organization
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural team environment
- Proficient in the English language (written and verbal), a second language is an asset
- Ability to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, ever-changing environment
- Show genuine care for all co-workers and guest(s)
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times
- Able to project in a professional manner at all times
Education/Certifications
- 5 years of building trade or hotel engineering with some supervisory experience.
- or related field, or any combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally lifting or pushing up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to reach in all directions while standing on a ladder or scaffold at heights up to 30 feet.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to grasp, lift or carry objects weighing up to 80 lbs
- Ability to perform duties in extreme temperature ranges.
- Typically located in a comfortable area. There may be regular exposure to mild discomfort from factors such as dust, odors, extreme temperature, inclement weather, noise, or lights.
