Responsibilities & Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the position of Server is to serve food and beverages to guests in a timely, courteous, efficient and accurate manner. All functions are carried out to maintain an environment of teamwork. Other responsibilities include adhering to the hotels’ sustainability guidelines.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet guests in a friendly and timely manner once guest has been seated.
• Give menu and dessert presentation at each assigned table, including highlights and theme of the menu.
• Accurately take guest(s) order and enter orders using the InfoGenesis system.
• Answer guest questions regarding food items, beverages, special promotions, etc.
• Make sure meals/entrees are complete and delivered to guest(s) in a timely manner.
• Provide service throughout the guests dining experience.
• Place all beverage orders through the bartender(s).
• Make sure all final tabs are correct before presenting the check to the guest.
• Complete side work duties as assigned
• Open bottled wine for guests.
• Bus and set tables, as needed. Perform set up and breakdown of various stations (i.e., deli, dessert, coffee, espresso).
• Assist with orders to go, as needed.
• Seat guests and help with answering phones as business demands.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to prevent and resolve guest complaints.
• Assist other restaurant personnel with tasks when necessary
• Perform basic maintenance tasks as well as recycling, water and energy conservation.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Respond to customer complaints and special requests
• Participate in general cleaning projects as required
• Maintain highest level of customer service and guest satisfaction, according to the standards set forth by The Palms Hotel and Spa
• Perform duties of F&B related positions as necessary
• Attend all staff meetings related to F&B
• Ensure compliance with health and sanitation policies in all areas
• Adhere to all fire, safety, and security procedures according to hotel policy
• Adhere to all sustainability guidelines as per the Inspired by Nature Program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Be courteous
• Show genuine care for all co-workers and guest(s)
• The ability to work well in a team environment
• Proficient in the English language. Second language is an asset.
• Must be able to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, ever-changing environment.
• Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.

• Minimum of one year upscale dining experience
• Basic skills in reading, writing, arithmetic, speaking and listening
• Basic Wine Knowledge
• Must have good understanding of the English language.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor.
• Compute basic arithmetic.
• High degree of self-motivation, ability to work well both as an individual contributor and within a team environment.
• Highly motivated and flexible, possessing the ability to take initiative.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• You must be flexible day/night/weekend shifts

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous work experience as a server or restaurant position
• Hands-on experience with multiple tasks for a fast-paced environment

• High school diploma is a plus
• Basic computer skills

WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• There may be regular exposure to mild discomfort from factors such as dust, odors, extreme temperature, inclement weather, noise, or lights.
• Most of the time spent standing, walking or there are some requirements to lift moderate weight (10-20 pounds)
• Additionally, the team member will frequently be asked to use hands and arms carry and lift items. Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision and distance vision. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member may experience temperature fluctuations and moderate to high levels of noise.
