Job Summary
The Palms Pet Resort is looking for a full or part time Playcare Attendant to join our team! We provide Playcare, or doggie daycare, for our clients so their pets have a place to enjoy time with others while they are away at work or running some errands for the day! Scheduled shifts are varied from 7am-6pm, Monday-Friday. Shifts will vary from opening, mid, and closing. Our playcare area is only open Monday-Friday, some major holidays may be worked to help out in our boarding facility from time to time.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- attending and observing throughout the day while guests are with us
- paying careful attention to dog body language and behavior to keep the pack and staff safe
- monitoring our guests with great attention to detail to let owners know how their pet did for the day
- cleaning the facility to keep it in excellent shape inside and out
- keeping the yard clean by picking up poop
- handling dogs of all breeds, sizes, temperaments and ages
- availability to work holidays, as needed, and be available as we are here to take care of our friends for our clients
- interacting with guests with a professional and enthusiastic manner
- providing excellent customer service to returning and new clients!
A Palms Playcare Attendant is professional, self motivated, has excellent multi tasking abilities, and is able to provide a low stress/fear free approach in a fast paced environment. No experience is necessary, it is always appreciated and looked at closely if you have any! We are looking for any and all pet care lovers who have an interest in caring for our wonderful guests.

The Palms Pet Resort & Spa is a client-centered facility whose mission is to provide an environment that nurtures both the emotional and physical needs of our guests
The Play Care Technician is responsible for supervising all aspects of Play Care to include behavior monitoring of dogs and establishing and maintaining daily play groups of dogs. The Play Care Technician is also responsible for ensuring that all animals are safe at all times, keeping in mind that they are caring for someone else’s family member. Ensuring the safety of their fellow staff members as well as that of clients are other responsibilities of the Play Care Tech. The Play Care Tech must also be able to perform all duties of the Pet Care Technician.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous on-the-job training desirable, but not required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous animal care background is desirable, but not required
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when stressed, ill or in pain.
- Can stay calm and efficient during a crisis.
- Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties with maturity
- Can support and be a part of a team; works well with all levels of facility team members.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision
- Has excellent client communication skills
- Exercises strict adherence to the work schedule and must be available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
- Physical Effort: Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50 lbs). Ability to walk and control dogs on leash. Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent or squatting position.Able to use a step ladder and/or ladder.
- Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors from vomit and feces. May be exposed to animal urine, as well as repetitive loud noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
Direct Animal Care and Knowledge
- Provides compassionate care to all pets in the facility
- Able to work with all sizes, breeds and temperaments of dogs and cats
- Provides proper documentation of each pet’s daily routines and tracks each pet’s belongings throughout the stay
- Responds calmly and in a timely manner to the following: barking, whining, all pet messes, and pet body language.
- Over see interactive behavior between dogs
- Once trained, be able to recognize and manage different dog behaviors to include knowing the proper way to respond to said behavior
- Once trained, must be able to administer first aid to dogs as needed and assess when veterinary care is needed. If veterinary care is needed be able to facilitate that with Hill Country Animal Hospital
Animal Health Care
- Provides food and water to pets according to scheduled feeding times
- Ensures potty breaks and exercise times are provided according to schedule
- Ensures that all excrement (feces and urine) is removed from pet areas according to protocol to ensure a healthy environment for all pets
- Consistently focuses on safe animal handling
- Consistently focuses on animal cleanliness (environment and the pet itself) to maintain the health of pets in our care
- Assesses an animal’s health needs. Identifies and documents any abnormalities that you may notice and works to resolve any health problems the pet may be experiencing. Seeks the assistance of a supervisor when needed.
- Once trained, understands and is able to carry out basic animal first aid
- Accurately administers medications, diets, treats and any other services according to an owner’s or a supervisor’s instructions
Animal Behavior/Training Skills
- Understands basic animal behavior
- Assesses the animals’ behavioral and emotional needs and works to resolve and problems as needed, consulting a supervisor when necessary
- Exercises the appropriate use of a leash or carrier and/or space as they relate to animal behavior
- Supervise and assess the behavior of multiple dogs and resolve any inappropriate behavior
- Conduct and interpret pet screening evaluations and communicate the results to the dog owner and co workers
- Appropriately assign dogs to play groups
- Must be fluent in animal play behavior and the use of cut off signals
Safety
- Ensures every pet’s safety and comfort at all times
- Must be able to safely handle any size dog
- Consistently monitors environment for hazards and resolves issues accordingly
Facility Maintenance
- Operates washer, dryer and dish sanitizer
- Maintains the organization and cleanliness of storage areas and parking lot
- Restocks supplies as needed and is able to notify the appropriate person when supplies need to be ordered
- Repairs pet cots as needed
- Properly uses cleaning products following the facility protocol.
- General building maintenance as needed
- Demonstrates proper care and storage of equipment and supplies
- Responsible for the upkeep of the play yards as well as all the indoor play care area and supplies
Client Service
- Has excellent communication and customer service skills both in person and over the phone.
- Is able to present the Palms Pet Resort & Spa to clients in a favorable light by relaying information, answering questions and providing clients with tours of the facility
Personal Conduct/Individual Accountability
- Is friendly with both clients and co-workers and maintains a positive attitude while at work
- Is patient both with humans and pets, treating co-workers and clients with respect and compassion
- Must be punctual and reliable always remembering that your tardiness and absences affect the team and may affect the care we provide
- Must be responsible, dedicated and hardworking
- Is willing to accept constructive criticism from supervisors and co-workers when appropriate
- Takes direction well and applies it independently. Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions
- Resolves conflicts on the job pursuant to company policy and does not let this interfere with performance

- Must be flexible with scheduling and must be responsible for covering shifts to include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours when needed.
Other
- Performs other duties as assigned to include special projects when needed
- Performs shifts in Boarding as needed
