JOB SUMMARY
The part-time Safe Babies (SB) Specialist position is a trauma-responsive, hope-centered, relationship-based role focused on minimizing trauma and its impact on early development. This role is responsible for assisting the SB Community Coordinator with implementing the vision of Tulsa Safe Babies in collaboration with the SB Judges/Court Team, child welfare, stakeholders, funders, Zero to Three (ZTT), ODMHSAS, and other involved community partners for successful operation and execution of the SB approach. The Tulsa Safe Babies approach serves children 0-3 and their involved caregivers, by improving how court systems, child welfare agencies, and child/caregiver-serving organizations work together to expedite services, enhance collaboration, and improve outcomes to improve safety and prevent future court involvement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend Child Safety Meetings (CSMs) and Show Cause hearings for new SB referrals.
- Share, verbally and in writing, the Safe Babies approach and related statewide SB research opportunities to natural parents referred by Oklahoma Human Services (OHS) child welfare to SB; collecting needed informed consent forms, release of information forms, assessment measures, and other required forms.
- Provide reminder notifications and case updates to providers regarding upcoming Family Team Meetings (FTM’s), facilitate FTMs under the guidance and support of the SB Community Coordinator, and submit FTM summaries to the court. These meetings are typically held all day on the first and third Fridays of the month at the downtown Juvenile Courthouse.
- Provide a welcoming, inclusive, culturally sensitive, trauma-responsive and non-judgmental space for Safe Babies involved families, team members, community professionals and other stakeholders, where clear and kind crucial conversations are had.
- Under the guidance of SB Community Coordinator, attend review and permanency hearings as scheduled for SB involved families.
- Maintain ongoing communication with SB involved families, SB team members, and other involved professionals to assist with coordinating care, encouraging collaboration, and ensuring timely and meaningful connection to services and resources.
- Assist with timely collection, entering and monitoring of family-specific information into the Zero to Three (ZTT) and RedCap databases.
- On occasion, may be asked to asked to assist with taking meeting minutes and maintaining Excel spreadsheet including SB case data, upcoming court hearings, judicial teams; and to assist with preparing, modifying, and distributing documents including meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, drafts, and emails in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Available 20 hours/week, including Fridays 9:00am – 5pm
- Associate’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Two years’ work experience with at risk families.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and to coordinate the efforts of other team members to achieve goals.
- Ability to assess and intervene appropriately within complex family and community systems. Must exercise good judgment under stress, emotional stability, tact, reliability, patience, creativity and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances; basic skills in de-escalation and conflict management.
- Good computer skills (excel, word, outlook, telehealth); good organization and assessment skills; strong ability to utilize program technology in an efficient manner such as typing to enter/review documentation in electronic health record within agency standard, entering assessment data, etc.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
- High level of integrity and awareness of HIPAA, PHI, & Confidentiality.
- Understanding and awareness of the impact of vicarious trauma. FTMs often contain highly sensitive, confidential, potentially triggering information and difficult, traumatic client histories.
- Reliable and consistent transportation; Valid Driver’s License
- Excellent written & verbal interpersonal interaction skills
- Ability to hold a non-judgmental, neutral perspective in understanding the sensitive, unique, confidential needs of families involved in court issues and the child welfare system.
- Ability to consistently meet established deadlines.
- Regular sitting, use of hands and fingers; regular talking/ listening to hear.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to carry forms, parent-child activity materials, and basic need items to one’s car and to varying work locations including Juvenile Court, PCCT or other community meeting locations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Oklahoma Case Management certification
- Oklahoma Association of Infant/Early Child Mental Health Endorsement
- Prior experience working with families involved with young children involved with child welfare
