JOB SUMMARY

TPS staff members believe deeply in the importance of the social and emotional development of young people and are committed to demonstrating that belief daily.  The Office Manager is a critical component of our school’s culture and plays an integral role in administrative support. The Custodian keeps the building in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. Duties may include tending the furnace and boiler, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of the need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from the sidewalk. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
• Gather and empty trash.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
• Notify Head Custodian concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or with hand trucks.
• Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow-melting chemicals.
• Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
• Mow or trim lawns or shrubbery, using mowers or hand or power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds.
• Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
• Make adjustments or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
• Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
• Spray insecticides or fumigants to prevent insect or rodent infestation.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma - or the equivalent
• Basic math skills
• Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
• Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
• Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
• Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
• Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

EXPECTATIONS

• Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis, Monday - Friday

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights
• Ability to work in an environment with an above-average level of noise

Salary : $45,000 - $47,000
