The Pathway Initiative, Inc. (TPI) is a community based educational non-profit organization based in Boston .
Our mission is to increase access for talented and motivated African American, Hispanic, and Latino students, to help them achieve their career potential in medicine and life sciences and support their return to underserved communities, helping to mitigate the shortage of clinicians of color in the United States.
TPI partners with local schools to provide hands-on, interactive learning experiences to middle and high school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
We are currently seeking passionate educators for Health Sciences Program, which runs from Mid-March 2025 to June 2025 (with opportunity for extending employment to other TPI programs).
General Description :
The teacher will work directly with high school students (grades 6-8th) in Boston, MA, to introduce them to fundamental concepts in health sciences & medicine. This seasonal position requires the teacher to lead engaging, hands-on lessons and activities, and support students in their academic and personal growth.
The program will run Monday - Thursday) from 2 : 00 PM to 6 : 00 PM and Friday for site trips or guest speakers.
Responsibilities
1.Curriculum Development : Collaborate with TPI staff to develop an engaging curriculum focused on health sciences, tailored to middle school students.
2.Teaching & Lesson Delivery : Lead interactive lessons, demonstrations, and group activities that help students understand key health science concepts.
3.Student Engagement : Foster a positive learning environment and encourage students to participate actively in all aspects of the program.
4.Assessment & Feedback : Develop assessments to measure student understanding, provide constructive feedback, and track progress.
5.Collaboration : Work alongside other teachers and TPI staff to support the overall success of the program.
6.Program Logistics : Help set up and maintain materials for each session, and ensure all necessary supplies are ready for use.
7.Communication with Families : Build and maintain positive relationships with students and their families, providing updates on student progress.
Qualifications :
1.Education : Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (Health Sciences, biological sciences ). Master's or PhD preferred.
2.Experience : At least 1-2 years of experience working with middle school and high school students in a teaching or mentoring capacity.
3.Skills : Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills. Ability to engage and motivate students through hands-on, interactive activities.
4.Preferred : Experience working with diverse student populations, fluency in Spanish preferred, and a background in working with underrepresented communities.
5.Other : Eligible to work in the U.S. and have a Social Security number.
