What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator II position at The PDI Group?
PDI Ground Support Systems is looking for a CNC Operator II. PDI is a defense contractor that supports 50 different Air Forces around the world and the United States Department of Defense. PDI is a union shop that has a full array of manufacturing operations consisting of (sawing, manual machining, metal fabrication, CNC machining, welding, assembly, wet painting and powder coat painting). This position will be reporting to the CNC Supervisor.
Job Experience
High School Diploma, Technical Trade School, or GED required.
4 to 7 years minimum experience working in a manufacturing machining environment.
4 to 7 years minimum experience operating CNC milling and CNC lathe equipment
4+ years’ experience in a close tolerance manufacturing environment work with, different metals, aluminum, and castings.
Job Expectations
Follow PDI’s health and safety policies.
Wear required safety equipment that complies with tasks being performed.
Fill out required daily time sheets and work orders.
The goal is to maintain daily work order labor efficiency of 85%.
Use hand tools and manual machines as needed.
Perform machine set-ups as required.
Download and Upload programs into CNC machine, and make minor programming adjustments as needed.
Make adjustments to offset coordinates to compensate for materials, tooling or machine center.
Operate many different types of CNC machines (mills, lathes and chuckers) to manufacture a finished machined product by performing a wide range of machining operations within tight tolerances.
Work with supervisor, programmer and support staff to resolve machining issues as required.
May be required to operate two to three machines depending on product mix.
Inspect own work for correct dimensions and ensure all drawing specification have been met. Verify dimensions of product for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers.
Able to read and interpret blue prints.
Clean work area at the end of each day.
Perform daily, weekly, and/or monthly preventative maintenance checks and safety checks as required by the supervisor.
Be respectful to co-workers, supervisors, and management. Help co-workers when asked for guidance on specific jobs, processes, drawing interpretation, company policies, and safety requirements.
Aid in the creation of manufacturing processes for jobs within the department.
Ensure department is clean (no trip hazards on the floor, trash picked off the floor, water/oil spills are picked up) and all tools, air lines and extension cords are put away at the end of the shift.
All aerosol cans (paint, WD-40) are returned to the flammable cabinets. Verify all containers are properly marked the chemical and hazardous safety codes.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements to be considered for a CNC Operator/Programmer
Completed a technical CNC programming class through a certified technical trade or community school.
Able to program parts without the assistance of a CNC programmer or Supervisor.
Show ability to train other CNC Operators on machine set-ups.
