The Peace Center is a major nonprofit performing arts center serving a growing and sophisticated audience in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the dominant performing arts center in the State and region. Built on a six-acre campus with an aesthetic mix of new architecture and historic buildings, the campus is at the hub of Greenville’s nationally recognized downtown.
The Peace Center venues include the 2,115-seat Peace Concert Hall, the 400-seat Gunter Theatre, the 1,400-capacity outdoor Peace Pavilion, Genevieve’s Lounge, and the Huguenot Mill which includes two event spaces: the Ramsaur Studio and the Huguenot Loft. Opening in 2025 there will be two additional music venues: the 250-seat Mockingbird (a listening room), and the 1,150 capacity Coach Factory (a flat floor club).
POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of the Peace Center. This position involves maintaining and optimizing the equipment, facilities, and infrastructure across a six-acre campus, which encompasses multiple buildings and outdoor spaces. The technician's responsibilities are critical for sustaining efficiency, functionality, and overall operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to)
- Preventative, general maintenance and repair of HVAC, 4 pipe system air handlers, plumbing, and electrical systems
- General building maintenance and repair of all Peace Center facilities
- Assist in monthly/annual inspections of life safety systems and OSHA compliance
- Assist contractors as needed in performing short-term service or repair
- Assist other departments as needed on special projects
- Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary to the position
QUALIFICATIONS
- HVAC, plumbing, electrical and strong mechanical ability to troubleshoot equipment and building systems
- Associates degree or minimum of 2 years relevant maintenance experience desired
- Experience reading blueprints/schematics
- Experience with fire alarm and building automation systems preferred
- HVAC and/or electrical certification a plus
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Constant moving about the campus as necessary to maintain facilities
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 lbs without mechanical assistance
- Frequent ascending/descending a ladder to service lights, air ducts, and other equipment
- Frequent positioning of self by stooping, kneeling, or crouching to access equipment for repair or maintenance
- Occasional work in outdoor weather conditions
- Occasional weekend and/or evening hours required based on event calendar and need
- This position works an on call rotation with other Engineering team members
