What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Humanities Teacher position at The Pennington School?
The Pennington School is seeking a highly engaging and passionate Middle School teacher for our Grade 6 Humanities classes. This position is for the 2025-26 academic year with a start date in mid-August 2025. Candidates should also possess a developmental understanding of and great appreciation for working with students in this age group (Grades 6 through 8). The ideal candidate will embrace a student-centered approach to learning, have the ability to differentiate their teaching, and help guide students to work toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding. Class sizes typically range from ten to sixteen students.
This instructor will teach two, double-block sections of Grade 6 Humanities, contribute to curricular design and implementation, (co)-lead extracurricular activities, lead a sixth-grade advisory group, and collaborate with colleagues in a supportive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Teach Grade 6 Humanities (equal parts English and Social Studies / History)
- Lead a sixth-grade advisory group
- Teach elective courses
- Assist students during study halls, if needed
- Participate in two after-school activities (athletics, arts, and / or other programming) each year
- Demonstrate warmth, respect, humor, teamwork, and industry in interactions with students, colleagues, and parents
- Genuinely appreciate and embrace the energy and interests of students ages 11-14
Qualifications :
This position is full-time, teaching ten (10) months per year, exempt from overtime, and eligible for all benefits afforded to full-time Pennington School employees.
