JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Mont Alto seeks outstanding applicants for a term, full-time Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor to teach in the Society of American Foresters accredited, Associate in Science degree in Forest Technology program. This position is a non-tenure track, 36-week appointment for fall and spring semesters beginning in August 2025.

Teaching responsibilities: Teach in-person forestry and related courses including but not limited to Forest Ecosystem Protection, Arboriculture, Plant Biology, Forest Soils and Hydrology, Introduction to Forestry, and depending on the candidate's background would also teach Outdoor Recreation Management, Silviculture, or Introduction to Wildlife Management or develop new courses as needed. Teaching assignments may require day, evening and/or Saturday classes, labs, and field trips as needed.Outdoor field labs are a core component of this curriculum.

Other responsibilities: Engage in scholarly activities to stay current in the discipline, possibly including undergraduate research; ensure program accreditation standards including curriculum assessment and development which may require creating new courses; advise students and student clubs, perform academic reviews, and provide career guidance; collaborate in student recruitment and retention; participate in campus and university service activities; assist with some or all of the following: Bartlett Tree Research Plot, Arboretum Inventory, Waynesboro Watershed Forest, depending on expertise and or interest; participate in professional service and outreach to the community.

Qualifications: Candidates for the position at the rank of Lecturer will possess a M.S. in Forestry or a closely related field or a M.F. Candidates for the position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor will possess a doctorate degree in Forestry or a closely related field. This position requires both computer and field teaching experience and a commitment to providing high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment. Interest in teaching indoors and outdoors in active and collaborative learning should be demonstrated. Prior college-level teaching experience and professional work experience in forestry or natural resource management is strongly preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
