JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The academic advising team within the College of the Liberal Arts has several Student Peer Advisor positions available starting summer or fall 2024, with the goal of hiring Peer Advisors for the entire 2024/25 academic year. The positions will allow current undergraduate students to gain experience in working with the Liberal Arts advising staff, provide peer to peer advising support and mentoring to other undergraduate students, and assist the academic advising team with programs and events across campus. Peer Advisors will work up to 10 hours per week and must be available for a weekly team meeting.

Responsibilities may include:

* Supporting the advising team and other staff in the College of the Liberal Arts

* Connecting and engaging with undergraduate students

* Serving as a Peer Mentor for undergraduate first-year students

* Assisting with advising-related student events

* Communicating timely information to students

* Developing and fostering a sense of community within the Liberal Arts

* Connecting students to Liberal Arts and University resources

* Holding consistent weekly office hours

* Attending weekly first-year seminars as a peer consultant

Strong preference will be given to undergraduate students enrolled in majors offered by the College of the Liberal Arts. Additionally, preference will be given to students that have experience utilizing College-level resources and exhibit involvement in The College of the Liberal Arts. Successful candidates must have demonstrated academic success and have an interest in helping students navigate transitions.

For full consideration, candidates should submit a resume and cover letter as part of their application. Your cover letter should address the following: 1. Why you want to be a peer adviser, 2. What you have been involved with/engaged in that prepares you for the peer adviser role, and 3. How you will balance being a peer adviser with your other commitments. Priority review of applications will begin on March 14, but applications will be accepted until all position are filled. If selected for an interview, applicants must be available to attend group interviews on the weekend of March 23/24 to be considered for a peer adviser position.

Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
