JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Cell and Biological Systems, and the Mnatsakanyan Laboratory in Hershey, PA are seeking an application for a post-doctoral position. The candidate will work on a multidisciplinary research project combining electrophysiology (patch-clamp and planar lipid bilayer recordings), cryo-electron microscopy, microscale thermophoresis, and animal models of Alzheimer's disease to study the mitochondria-mediated cell death mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis. The candidate will be involved in large-scale protein expression and purification, electrophysiology, mitochondrial physiology and drug discovery studies,to investigate the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis. The selected individual will be expected to assist in developing, designing, and conducting research and will gain the training needed to become an independent researcher in the growing field of mitochondrial physiology. Strong skills in structural biology techniques (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM) are desired but not required.
Qualified candidates for the postdoctoral position should have a Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related fields. Experience in one of the following areas is preferred: mitochondrial physiology, protein biochemistry/biophysics, structural biology, ion channel electrophysiology.
This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
