JOB SUMMARY:
Technical Services Managers oversee the work of subordinates who schedule, execute and distribute information on various reports and maintain microcomputer equipment. Managers design and supervise the maintenance of the data communications network; assisting with long range planning. This position is highly technical in nature, requiring extensive knowledge of computer software and hardware. Work is reviewed by the Director of Information Services for departmental efficiency and effectiveness. This position supervises a staff of technical workers. Technical Services Managers work is performed in an office setting and includes a minimal amount of physical tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
- Experience supervising, training, and evaluating technical staff employees (e.g., Computer Operators, PC Network Techs, etc.) as direct reports including reviewing work, giving feedback and directing work activities in a Help Desk environment.
- Experience developing, coordinating and managing complex, large scale projects (from creation to completion) in a large Information Technology department (e.g. more than 50 employees).
- Experience analyzing hardware usage patterns to strategically plan for future requirements of a large IT department (e.g. more than 50 employees).
- Work experience developing and implementing policies and procedures for controls/security measures, service level agreements and data center operations, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Merit System agencies. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
- Work experience writing formal status reports, business plans, bids, etc. for senior IT management (based on analysis, needs, projects, etc.)
COMPENSATION:
Application for this position will be considered for the following Merit System employing agencies:
- Birmingham $38.57 - $59.84 USD Hourly
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
- Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
- Directs information technology infrastructure areas including data center, PC tech help desk, networks, systems, data backup/recovery and storage area network.
- Interacts with vendors regarding hardware and software products.
- Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
- Creates policies, procedures, and strategic plans in conjunction with senior management related to network security, hardware and software usage and performance, the purchase and disposal of hardware and software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in a call center setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Job requires working holidays, overtime (e.g., in the morning, during lunch, or after normal working hours), and/or nights.
