JOB SUMMARY:
Water Reclamation Facility Supervisors direct the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and/or lift stations and package plants in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. Work entails supervising the activities of various shift supervisors and operators engaged in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and wastewater testing laboratory. At small wastewater treatment plants, Water Reclamation Facility Supervisors have complete responsible charge of the plants; whereas at medium wastewater treatment plants and large wastewater treatment plants, Water Reclamation Facility Supervisors work under the direction of a Water Reclamation Facility Superintendent. Work is primarily performed at a wastewater treatment facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
- Driver's license.
- Possession of an active Grade IV Wastewater Certification from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) - or the ability to obtain certification through reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
- Experience operating in a Class III or Class IV municipal wastewater treatment plant, performing activities involving the wastewater treatment processes and equipment, water quality testing, and recording information for reports.
- Experience supervising, training, assigning, and reviewing the performance of subordinates in the water industry (e.g., wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, industrial pre-treatment plants, water industry engineering/design).
- Experience reading and interpreting regulatory requirements for wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience using MS Excel and/or other databases (e.g., Hach Wims, Munis, asset management software) to manipulate and analyze data.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
- Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
- Gathers information from wastewater treatment plant equipment and gauges, records readings and reports any malfunctions
- Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
- Interprets lab analyses, utilizes data to determine any necessary changes and transposes results into monthly operating reports for submission.
- Performs general and preventative maintenance on various equipment, stations, buildings, and locations throughout the Water Reclamation Facility to ensure proper and safe plant operations.
- Performs Water Reclamation Facility operations activities including performing detailed inspections of the wastewater flow and the operating equipment, gathering information plant equipment and gauges and making necessary operational adjustments to ensure proper and safe plant functioning.
- Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
- Regulates wastewater treatment plant processes depending on various settings, flow movement and other variables
- Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. The job may require moderate physical activity including climbing, stooping, bending, twisting, crouching, crawling and performing general labor activities. Job may also involve lifting of items or objects weighing more than 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed at a wastewater treatment facility. Incumbents in the position may be required to work in an open vehicle or equipment (e.g., tractor), in confined spaces, in a laboratory, and be required to wear protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety belts, glasses, gloves, hard hats or live jackets. Work may involve exposure to biological and/or chemical hazards and hazardous work conditions (e.g., working in and around traffic, construction zones, heavy equipment). Job may also require exposure to inclement weather when working outdoors (e.g., extreme heat, cold, rain snow, wind).
