Pharmaceutical Operations Facility Manager

Summary of responsibilities:

The Pharmaceutical Operations Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive daily operations of a fulfillment-compounding facility, with a focus on achieving operational excellence, ensuring safety, and maintaining strict regulatory compliance. This key leadership role is central to upholding the highest standards of quality, productivity, and cost efficiency across production, fulfillment, and shipping processes. Additionally, the manager will oversee the maintenance of the facility and its equipment, ensuring adherence to FDA, Board of Pharmacy, GMP, and other pertinent industry standards.

The Facility Manager will lead a dynamic team of professionals, implement forward-thinking facility strategies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive production objectives. This includes the development and monitoring of metrics and KPIs to track performance and foster continuous improvement. A critical component of this role is the establishment of a robust software infrastructure that integrates seamlessly across all departments, ensuring accountability and alignment with company objectives.

Production, Fulfillment, and Shipping Management:

• Collaborate with production, fulfillment, shipping, and supply chain teams to streamline workflows, minimize downtime, and maximize resource efficiency.
• Ensure accountability in each division by tracking employee metrics and KPIs and fostering a team culture focused on productivity and efficiency.

Facility Operations:

• Oversee facility maintenance, equipment functionality, and overall production environment to support operational standards and regulatory requirements.

Compliance Management:

• Ensure facility adherence to GMP, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular audits and work closely with quality control teams to maintain certification standards.

Safety & Security:

• Establish and maintain safety protocols, including hazardous materials handling, emergency procedures, and fire safety measures.
• Provide training and enforce safety policies to minimize risk.

Team Leadership

• Manage, train, and mentor facility staff, including technicians, production support staff, and safety personnel.
• Foster a collaborative, data-driven work environment.

Budget Management:

• Prepare and manage the facility's operational budget, including forecasting labor expenses and managing repairs, equipment purchases, and maintenance.
• Track spending and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance facility productivity and efficiency.
• Collaborate with other departments to support optimization projects.

Vendor & Contractor Management:

• Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for repairs, maintenance, and facility upgrades.
• Ensure vendor compliance with company policies and quality standards.

Reporting & Documentation:

• Maintain comprehensive records of facility operations, maintenance schedules, incident reports, and compliance audits.
• Generate regular reports for management review.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a facility management role within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Certifications: Certification in facilities management (CFM), OSHA certification, or PMP certification is preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of GMP, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines relevant to pharmaceutical production.
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in facility management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP systems.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and maintain a collaborative work environment.

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma certification preferred.
• Experience with facility automation, preventive maintenance, and quality control systems.
• Familiarity with budgeting, expense forecasting, and financial planning.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
