Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Support Services is responsible for compliance with regulatory standards related to hospital safety and the Environment of Care. The Director of Support Services acts as the hospital’s safety officer. The Director of Support Services participates as a member of the Hospital management team as a professional and technical subject matter expert of the Joint Commission Environment of Care. Designs, implements and evaluates systems to improve the EOC functions of the hospital. The Director takes the lead role in coordinating and developing the needs and establishing the plans for Biomedical Engineering, Safety, Emergency Management, Security, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Nutritional Services. Ensures the efficient and effective development, operation, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and all the HVAC systems throughout the facility. Responsible for the housekeeping, laundry/linen, and biohazard waste programs. Must know JCAHO and OSHA regulations relating to The Physicians Centre Hospital. Responsible for maintenance and replacement. Monitors the activities of dietary services. The director serves as the primary representative in the direct supervision of unit staff personnel. He/she ensures the quantity and quality of the work meets all standards. Activities include providing direction, on-the-job training, and continuing guidance to the service staff. Designs, implements, and evaluates systems to improve quality of service and goods in all support areas for everyone served by the hospital.l Work with the administrative team to coordinate marketing efforts for the hospital. Takes administrative call in a rotational basis. The Director will project a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of patients, coworkers, and NSH as appropriate. Serves as the hospital's Regional Advisory Council representative. Serves as a member of the Clinical Leadership Committee and its subcommittees. Assumes other duties as required.
Physical Requirements:
May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 100 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. Work is of medium demand, walking or standing most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity are essential to performing the designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity is required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and tools. Physical conditions are clean, neat, and well-lit. May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations, and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required, along with work in the outside environment during inclement weather. Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances, and infectious disease processes is a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the facility.
OSHA Exposure Classification:
Job Category II. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply may occur but are not a part of the regular job processes. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn if exposure is anticipated.
Qualifications, Knowledge, & Ability:
• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• High School diploma or equivalent
• State licensure with the Texas Department of Health and Foodservice Management Certificate.
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective use of chemical cleaning agents and safety instructions or understands translation of English to assure the above.
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own growth and advancement.
• Universal Refrigeration Certification.
• 4-year HVAC Apprenticeship or equivalent or at least 5 years experience in the commercial and industrial refrigeration field. Work experience to include but not limited to: Chillers, Absorption Units, DX Units, and Gas-Fired Boilers.
