Description:
Are you studying small engine repair or have experience fixing landscaping equipment? We're looking for a Part Time Mechanic to assist with clearing out work orders at the tail end of our busy season. The mechanic position performs inspections, maintenance, and repair of all vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools used in the performance of environmental. restoration and stewardship. must be completed with the goal of maximizing in-service time and controlling operating costs. The position primarily consists of work in the areas of automotive, and light and medium truck service, small engine repair, and heavy equipment service and repair.
Hours and Schedule: Flexible hours. Work when you can to keep work orders from accumulating. We will work with your schedule.
Work indoors! Great side gig!
Travel: Reporting to one location. If travel is required: same day return, commuting in company equipment.
Duties:
• Perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment
• Change fluid, filters, and adjust as prescribed by PM schedules
• Inspect and diagnose vehicles and equipment, identify worn or damaged parts
• Correct deficiencies by repairing or replacing damaged, worn, or defective parts
• Verify performance and operation by testing before and after services/repairs
• Maintain vehicle and equipment availability by performance of preventive maintenance
• Perform service calls and field repairs as needed
• Complete maintenance and repairs in an efficient and timely manner
• Maintain inventory of shop tools and supplies
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
• Maintain shop equipment
• Make detailed records of work performed, time, and parts used on work order forms
• Adhere to company defined and industry standards, procedures, and methods
• Obtain, comprehend, and apply information contained in operators, service, and parts literature
• Use a computer terminal for recordkeeping and reference purposes
• Maintain knowledge and qualifications
• Participate in educational and training opportunities
• Obtain and read technical and regulatory publications
• Drive and operate autos, trucks, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery and implements, and small engine
power equipment.
• Other duties as required.
Skills and Knowledge:
• 1-year previous experience in automotive, truck, diesel, small engine and power equipment service and
repair is required. 2 or more years’ experience preferred.
• A good knowledge and understanding of automotive and truck systems, including brake, steering,
suspension, exhaust, and ignition systems.
• A good knowledge and understanding of automotive unleaded and diesel truck engines, their components,
component function, troubleshooting and repair.
• A good knowledge and understanding of power equipment and small engines, their components,
component function, troubleshooting and repair.
• A good knowledge and understanding of the safe and correct use of air and electric power tools is
required.
• A good knowledge and understanding of the safe and correct use of hand tools, test equipment, and lifting
equipment common to automotive and equipment service and repair
• A good understanding of diagnostic procedures and methods. Ability to logically troubleshoot problems to
find and correct root causes
• Basic computer knowledge and typing ability is required.
• Ability to read and write (English) legibly is required. Basic algebraic math skills are required.
• A basic ability to drive a truck and trailer and operate machinery is required.
Additional Preferred Knowledge and Skills - Can obtain on-the-job
• A general understanding of hydraulic systems, such as those found on construction and
agricultural equipment, their components, component function, troubleshooting and repair
• Experience of training mounting, dismounting, balancing, and repairing tires manually
and/or using tire machines
• A general knowledge of wheel alignment and its effect and dependency on tires and
suspension is required. Experience or training with wheel alignment equipment
• A general knowledge of HVAC systems their components, component function, troubleshooting
and repair is preferred. Previous experience and knowledge of service equipment.
• Knowledge and/or experience with auto body repair and paint
• Experience or training with automotive fluid handling, flushing and filling machines
• Training or experience in service writing or report writing
• Previous experience on skid steer, tractor, wheel loader and/or forklifts
• Specific knowledge and experience with Ford Power Stroke diesel engines
• Specific knowledge and experience with Stihl and Honda power equipment
• Some understanding of automotive computer control systems, OBD2 and diagnostic service
tools (readers, scanners, and scopes of various manufactures) is preferred. Specific
experience with Ford IDS and VCM is preferred.
• Knowledge of hybrid electric vehicles, their components, component function, safety,
troubleshooting and repair
• Experience cutting and welding steel and/or aluminum with oxygen/acetylene, plasma,
SMAW, GMAW or GTAW equipment
Certification and Education:
• Valid driver's license always required
• Must always meet driver qualification standards
• Course work in automotive, small engine, or diesel service and repair is preferred
• High School or GED Required. Some trade school preferred.
