Job Description:

Grow Native plants from seed to finished liners. The focus of this position is in the propagation department, working with all other departments to organize successful seedling crop schedule and maintaining close observation and communication with all propagation related operations. Work as member of the PNPN team striving to achieve high standards in regard to facility appearance and quality control. Strive for an exceptional level of customer service by maintaining a professional attitude when interacting with clients.

Growing Operations

• Manage growing operations in all Propagation areas

• Irrigate crops and monitor system performance in propagation areas.

• Fertilizer & pesticide applications and scheduling in propagation areas.

• Manage an IPM program in propagation areas

• Maintenance on all crops such as applying rice hulls and cutting back on all crops.

• Assist with seed harvest & cleaning.

• Over-wintering preparation and maintenance

• Deep clean propagation areas in between growing seasons.

• Inspect growing structures daily and monitor for damage and fix if possible, otherwise notify nursery manager

• Monitors growing conditions and discusses changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and cultivation procedures with grow team to ensure conformance with quality control standards.

• Regularly inspect crops to ascertain conditions and existence of pests or disease.

• Apply fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide and fungicides.

• Assist in development of growing procedures for new species in product line and new cultivation techniques.

• Communicate with Nursery manager in regard to losses or IPM issues

• Maintain heating/cooling systems in propagation areas.

• Ordering, application and maintenance of beneficial insect populations and rice hulls.

• Keep track of pesticide/herbicide inventory.

• Build pallet racks and organize rack building inventory.

• Work with seed specialist to plan, organize and implement greenhouse workflow.

• Assuring seedling quality control by communicating with production team and preforming daily seedling crop inspections.

General Nursery Maintenance

• Weed management

• Laying and repairing ground cloth

• Irrigation system maintenance

• Unload deliveries of building /growing materials.

• Load/unload delivery racks.

Assist in plant production and other tasks including:

• Transplanting

• Seeding

• Learn native plant species and their characteristics
