What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Care Support Staff-Relief position at The Place?
Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, the Direct Care Support Staff - Relief is responsible for providing direct supervision of youth at The PLACE shelter. This includes assisting youth in increasing self-efficacy and reducing risky behavior, maintaining a safe and positive environment, and assisting with programs. A normal day in the job consists of supervising youth while ensuring that facility rules and regulations are followed, providing crisis intervention for youth in distress, helping keep facilities clean, cooking, and data collection and data entry to keep records up to date throughout the day. In addition, to be successful in this position, Direct Care Staff approach work with a trauma informed mindset to ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at The PLACE prioritize the physical and emotional safety of staff and youth.
Schedule
Relief staff select shifts as they become available, most frequently on the day shift. Shifts vary in length, but most are generally 8-9 hours in length. The PLACE shelter operates 24 / 7 so both night and day shifts are available.
Pay / Benefits
Pay is $18.25 an hour. This position comes with sick pay.

Requirements
- At least two years of college education OR a high school diploma / equivalent and one year's experience in the human services field
- QMAP certified or eligible for QMAP certification.
- Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
- Must pass pre-employment TB screening.
- Able to connect and work effectively with a diverse, resistant street youth population by setting clear boundaries with youth and approaching youth with a trauma informed mindset.
- Knowledge and understanding of common problems faced by the homeless adolescent population, such as mental health issues and substance abuse.
