The Plus Group is seeking a Wastewater Chem Ops Supervisor to join our client’s team. This leadership role within the Wastewater/Lab team is perfect for someone with deep knowledge of chemical operations and a passion for continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Wastewater Chem Ops Supervisor will work with the Director of Operations to develop a continuous improvement plan and develop new hires with hands-on training and through training/certification in HRIS system (PayCom). The ideal candidate has analytical and critical thinking abilities and can evaluate and interpret information and procedures to make timely decisions while functioning in a fast-paced, changing work environment. You must possess organizational skills to meet deadlines and assist staff in multi-research studies and work in areas where chemical-based allergens may be in use.
You will be responsible for treating waste from processes and chemical waste, chemical analysis of tank compositions, filtration and changing chemicals or solutions in the chemical tanks, neutralizing solids from the chemical tanks, and maintaining the chemical tanks and the waste treatment area.
Essential duties include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Oversee and supervise the entire shift, ensuring the efficient operation of the Chem Ops/Lab Department, identifying trends, improvement areas, and setting goals for continuous progress.
- Master all Lab Tech and Chemist responsibilities, stepping in to assist with any process, including Wastewater lab instruments, while ensuring effective team workflow, particularly in the Wastewater area.
- Manage communications within the team and across departments, prioritizing tasks, ensuring deadlines are met, and maintaining updated documentation.
- Monitor and review data trends, such as instrument performance, part pass/fail rates, and inventory usage, while addressing deviations and working with engineering to establish baseline data.
- Represent the Chem Ops/Wastewater Lab in meetings, presentations, and external communications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting continuous improvement.
- Lead special projects, including writing and updating SOPs, implementing new procedures, managing staff training, and addressing performance issues through feedback and conflict resolution.
- Handle emergencies, unscheduled shut-downs, and scheduled maintenance, coordinating with the Lab Manager and plant operations to create action plans and ensure smooth workflow.
- Maintain equipment, ensure proper calibration and operation, and mentor staff on safety procedures and correct equipment usage.
- Participate in periodic training, uphold quality standards, supervise quality control, and inspect staff work to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with established protocols.
- Coordinate and prioritize daily lab tasks, manage multiple projects, and maintain clear communication with team members, while also managing attendance records and scheduling vacations for the Wastewater team.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree in Science. (Chemistry Degree is preferred)
- Supervisory role for 3 years & worked in Analytical Laboratory environment for 5 years
- Hazardous Materials Handling and Disposition training, 24-Hour HAZWOPER training, respirator training, and local and state required training
- Basic math skills to process inventory, counting, time allocation, and perform complex calculations to verify chemistry concentrations.
- Ability to read and comprehend internal documents such as SOPs, work order travelers, inventory records, logs and general company records and applicable regulatory requirements.
Safety:
Employee will be trained on general safety requirements at the time of hire and specific requirements within this team during the first 90 days of hire. Will be trained to follow all general safety requirements, as well as specific safety requirements within the Wastewater and Chemical team. Employee will be sent to 24 HAZWOPER Training for Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility Workers.
Work Environment:
Must be able to function well in an office environment. Must also be able to work in a controlled chemical and wastewater environment. Must also be able to perform in a laboratory environment. Persons who are sensitive to chemical environments with such medical conditions as asthma, allergies, or extreme sensitivity to chemicals may not be considered as good candidates for this position. Able to travel to the various facilities as required.
Physical Demands:
Must pass Company required screening tests. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand, reach with hands and arms and perform light routine office work, which includes computer workstation usage. Should be able to pick-up 35 lbs on occasional or regular basis.
