As a Capital Project Manager II, you will be responsible for managing small to moderate sized projects or supporting other project managers on larger more complex projects. You may provide lead direction to project support staff. CPM 2 position may be assigned projects that are somewhat controversial in nature.

  • You will monitor and coordinate activities of contractors, consultants, and stakeholders during project.
  • You will assist tenants with understanding Port processes.
  • You will develop, negotiate, and manage routine to moderately complex consultant contracts including, budget coordination of cost estimates with monthly forecast, create and manage schedules using standard project management tools for design and construction.
  • You will plan the procurement strategy for the project in conjunction with sponsors, Construction Manager, Chief Procurement Officer, and the Office of Social Responsibility.
  • You will participate in project planning meetings to discuss / determine project objectives, plan scope, schedule and budget.
  • You will participate in the development of presentations and documents including Commission memos, Service Agreements, Purchase Orders, Request for Quotations (RFQs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs)
  • You will plan and develop a community communications plan to inform and explain project objectives.
  • You will interact with Port departments and other government agencies on routine to moderately complex issues. You will also manage routine environmental and other permitting processes.
  • You will manage design reviews and ensure Port and external subject matter experts provide timely and sufficient input to inform the project development.

Who you are :

  • Experienced - You have four (4) years of general project management experience or construction / engineering experience.
  • Desired - We hope you have a bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, business administration or environmental science. We also hope you are a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Engineer in Training (EIT) or a Construction Manager in Training (CMIT). You have experience or understanding of maritime infrastructure and operations, utility infrastructure, facility operations, or building systems and operations. You have experience or familiarity with alternative project delivery such as Design-Build (DB), Progressive Design-Build (PDB) or General Contractor / Contractor Management (GC / CM).

  • Proficient - You possess knowledge required in preceding level : Capital Project Manager I (CPM I), with a working understanding of project management principles, including cost estimating, budgeting, and scheduling. You are familiar with engineering, architectural, and construction principles and procedures, project plans and specifications, as well as relevant federal, state, and local regulations for Port capital construction projects.
  • Efficient Communicator - You have well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal along with well-developed research and analysis skills.
  • Critical-Thinker - You have skill in utilizing critical and creative thinking, and problem solving along with skill in managing multiple tasks simultaneously. You are also skilled in prioritizing competing tasks.
  • Leader - You have demonstrated effective leadership skills and the ability to effectively influence people without direct authority. You also have skill in working as an effective team member.
  • Technically Skilled - You possess proficient computer skills including the use of various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Project and other database and project management software.
  • What else you need to know :

  • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid / in-office setting at Management's discretion.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
