Position Summary

The Director of Certificate Programs will play a pivotal role in the development, management, and delivery of the school’s certificate programs. This individual will work to ensure the programs align with JDS’s mission to provide robust, accessible theological education. The Director will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and administration to innovate and expand the certificate offerings, enhancing the overall educational experience for students. The Director of Certificate Programs will report directly to the Chief Academic Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management

  • Lead the strategic planning and administration of JDS’s certificate programs, ensuring they meet both academic standards and the needs of diverse student populations
  • Oversee the development and review of new certificate programs, in line with evolving trends in theology, ministry, and leadership training
  • Collaborate with faculty to design curricula that integrate faith, scholarship, and practical application for ministry

Student Engagement and Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current certificate students, providing guidance on program selection, enrollment, and progression
  • Develop student support systems to ensure academic success, retention, and career development post-certification
  • Coordinate orientation, advising, and mentoring programs to foster a supportive learning environment

Faculty Collaboration and Support

  • Work closely with faculty to ensure high-quality instruction and the integration of JDS’s mission and values within certificate programs
  • Facilitate faculty development opportunities to enhance instructional quality and support for certificate programs

Marketing and Recruitment

  • Assist in the promotion of certificate programs to prospective students through digital marketing, outreach initiatives, and relationship-building with community and church leaders
  • Work with the Admissions team to recruit a diverse student body and ensure effective enrollment processes for certificate programs

Assessment and Accreditation

  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to monitor student learning outcomes and program effectiveness
  • Evaluate the educational activities of the department, formulate plans for its future development, and transmit these plans to the appropriate dean/CAO
  • Ensure that certificate programs are in compliance with JDS accrediting body and internal quality assurance measures

Administrative Leadership

  • Execute JDS policies within the certificate programs
  • Formulate and execute departmental policies and procedures
  • Manage staffing, and other resources for certificate programs to ensure sustainability and growth
  • Supervise the use and access to facilities, equipment, and supplies by certificate programs
  • Prepare budget proposal and supervise expenditure of the funds allocated to the certificate programs
  • Arrange teaching assignments and organize the teaching program to make the most efficient use of the faculty
  • Provide the necessary departmental cooperation in interdisciplinary, interschool, and JDS wide activities
  • Establish an intellectual climate and working conditions that will encourage the professional development of faculty
  • Monitor trends and innovations in theological education to ensure JDS remains a leader in ministry training

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Provide front leadership to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in teaching, research, and other professional activities
  • Direct an effective advisory program for all students registered as majors in the department
  • Carry a teaching load of no less than 12 academic hours each semester.

Qualifications:

  • A Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree; Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education, with at least 3 years in a leadership or administrative role, ideally in a theological or ministry training context
  • Strong understanding of theological education, curriculum design, and student development
  • Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams and programs effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, and external partners
  • Experience in student recruitment, retention strategies, and academic advising
  • A deep commitment to the values and mission of Jakes Divinity School

Work Environment:

This position is based at Jakes Divinity School in Dallas, Texas.

Occasional travel may be required for outreach, recruitment events, and conferences.
