Job Description
Under the direction of the head teacher, develops and implements individual educational plans for children, which helps them to develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their stage of development. The Floater works collaboratively with the teacher assistants and volunteers by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- As a floater you will spend time in multiple classrooms and will fill in during any staff absences. Must be flexible and work well with others.
- Implements approved curriculum in classroom.
- Performs the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the excellence standards of the school.
- Plans and implements learning experiences that promote all developmental areas including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, print, numeric awareness, and language-including English as a second language if applicable.
- Guides and facilitates activities of the children including: daily activities, field trips, selecting, and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom.
- Maintains a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and developmental assessment completed as per procedure.
- Assists children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices.
- Guides children's acquisition of academic and social skills.
- Attends staff training, staff meetings, parent meetings, and special events inside/outside the school as requested.
- Works with teacher assistants and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
- Maintains a safe and healthy classroom environment.
- Assures that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
- Completes and submits required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, meal reports and etc.
- Distributes newsletters, flyers, and other information to families as instructed by the head teacher or the executive director.
- Assists teacher assistants to help to increase their professional knowledge and skills.*
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
