Title: Landscaper
Department/Location: Facilities Department, Principia College
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Supervisor of Landscape and Vehicle Equipment Maintenance, who reports to the Trades Manager.
Summary: Responsibilities include the maintenance of Principia College landscaping and grounds, minor repair to grounds equipment, and other landscaping tasks to maintain a safe and attractive environment. Landscape personnel must be available for early morning and/or late-night hours when snow or ice is forecast, and for other duties as required.

- Work Performed – Essential Duties:
- Maintains College grounds and landscaping including, but not limited to: Mowing grass and trimming with power mowers and other power tools; Weeding flower beds, around shrubs and trees, and other areas as needed; Removing dead branches, pruning and maintaining trees, and inspecting trees for damage from pests and disease; Removing trees and shrubs; Raking leaves and grass
- Performs routine maintenance and up-keep on all landscape equipment and tools
- Cleans guttering on academic, dormitory and rental housing buildings
- Maintains streets in the immediate vicinity of the campus
- Maintains parking lots
- Removes ice and snow using power snow blowers, tractors, bobcats, chemical ice melts, truck mounted plows, shovels, walk behind spreaders, and/or ice scrapers
- Assists with removal and disposal of trash and debris; assists with recycling
- Assists with basic vehicle maintenance, as needed
- Provides support and manpower as directed to other Facilities departments

Special Requirements:
- Physical fitness with no physical limitations: Must be able to lift 80 lbs., and carry 70 lbs.; ability to climb and assist in moving 40ft ladders, in accordance with job analysis and physician’s approval during pre-employment job physical
- Must be accessible and available to serve as “essential personnel,” in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing operational needs of the College
Minimum Qualifications:
- Highschool Diploma or GED; Education and/or experience in horticulture and sports-field management a plus
- Current, valid Illinois Driver’s License; Commercial Driver’s License a plus
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive hourly range for this position: $15.87-$19.04, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
