Purpose of Position
The General Manager is responsible for the efficient, professional and profitable operation of The Prospect and its entire operation. This individual ultimately oversees every managerial, f/t and p/t position, and ensures full compliance with state and federal labor laws, sanitation and food-related ordinances, and alcohol service regulations. In addition to managing the day-to-day business operations, the General Manager solicits new sources of revenue, both on and off the venue property.
Position Overview

The position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the property and all its operational departments. The General Manager champions and supports Human Resources and all Prospect programs to ensure compliance and a positive company culture. The GM provides a professional, caring, and confidential personnel service to management and staff, and oversees the welfare of all. The GM is responsible for providing operational communication and reports to leadership and ownership. All valued team members are expected to wear many hats at The Prospect so when it’s time to roll up your sleeves and assist your fellow team members, you may be stripping beds, helping with housekeeping, transporting guests, cleaning up the property or providing support for other fun activities that happen on a daily bases in order to ensure an amazing guest experience.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities Position Expectations
- Ensure legal, efficient, professional and profitable operations.
- Generate and review financial reports, including budgets, projections, forecasting, revenue analysis, disbursements, capital investments, labor and product costs, wage and salary control, P&L financial statements.
- Final decision-maker on equipment purchases and leases with approval from leadership team.
- Look to leadership and our HR partner for conflict resolution; last-resort mediation; arbitration and labor negotiations, when applicable and with approval/support from leadership.
- Author, review and amend policies & procedures, as required.
- Author and amend contracts; authorize terms, with approval of leadership.
- Oversee scheduling and labor allocation.
- Analyze revenue management/sales in relation to anticipating staffing needs, target market demographics and other proactive metrics.
- Evaluate recent historical sales and purchasing data for the purpose of identifying purchasing patterns and accurate cost of goods.
- Program and maintain as needed, all operational systems/technologies, such as PMS, POS, Accounting software etc.
- Direct and assist managers and staff in preparing and attaining future goals.
- Provide managers and staff with the proper direction and follow up on all assignments.
- Inspect the property on a regular basis to ensure that the established quality standards are maintained.
- Prepare required reports accurately and submit them on time, follow up with department heads to ensure that their reporting is completed within the same guidelines.
- Work with leadership to build and develop an effective management team.
- Provide managers and personnel with clear direction, and the necessary assistance for them to perform their work.
- Evaluates each manager’s performance and makes recommendations for their improvement.
- Review and assist in the development of menus and marketing and sales plans with the appropriate department heads, third party partners and leadership.
- Be very attentive to all social media platform discussions and answer each and every comment within 24 hours.
- Establish and maintain personal relationships with suppliers, vendors and the public that projects The Prospect in a positive light.
- The GM is the number one salesperson of The Prospect. Develop sales strategy with Sales Manager/Agency and support its progress.
- Meet top accounts during sales calls or at the hotel and participate in sales trips to major feeder markets with Sales Manager from time to time.
- Communicate policies and procedures. Ensures accurate interpretation by The Prospect staff. Provide management with appropriate procedural manuals for compliance.
- Support the recruitment of qualified applicants for The Prospect positions using our tech stack.
- Advise managers on employee disciplinary issues and ensure that actions adhere to policies and procedures. Strictly follow established procedures and documents.
- Work with leadership and HR partner for discussions on grievance-related concerns with employees and correctly advises employees on procedures. Ensures proper completion of required paperwork to help minimize potential liabilities.
- Manage employee separations and conduct exit interviews per The Prospect’s policy and applicable law, working with leadership and our HR partner for guidance.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports for management’s use.
- Organize a monthly P&L meeting with ownership and explain all variations and remediations to potential gaps vs Budget
- Participate in local community (Tourism Board, Hotel Association, Chamber of commerce, 1Berkshire)
- Monitor the performance evaluation process. Supports the distribution of evaluations/reviews, in a timely and appropriate manner, to departmental managers. Advises managers on compliance with applicable policies, procedures and deadlines.
- Provide and ensure effective training and career development opportunities for employees. Support and coordinate internal/external training programs; monitor effectiveness.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure effective utilization of budget allowances.
- Assist in defining goals for the organization on employee satisfaction and retention and support leadership in the creation of programs for employee recognition (e.g. employee of the month) and celebrated dates (e.g. birthdays, anniversaries, etc.). Provide feedback and initiate further ideas to pursue required results.

- Willingness to jump in with an ‘All Hands on Deck’ mentality and attack any task at hand. Being that we are a new project, tasks of all different varieties may come up and the applicant must be willing to take on out of the box challenges.
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices and techniques of public personnel administration. Knowledge or general understanding of applicable federal and MA state laws regarding Human Resources.
- Ability to evaluate and develop recommendations for improvements to operations, policies and/or procedures. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to write business correspondence, procedure manuals and effectively communicate information and responses.
- A solid grasp of technology and the ability to quickly learn new technology and the tech stack used at The Prospect.

Compensation
- Salary range of $95,000 up to $175,000
