Job Summary:

The Providence Center Clinical Therapist Community Washington County Co-Response will support and maintain a relationship with local police Chief or Superintendent by performing a range of clinical and administrative functions under the direction of the Lead Clinician.

Provide triage and assessment services for individuals in the community experiencing a psychiatric crisis as well as provision of non-emergent community-based outreach for individuals who have experienced police contacts and/or experiencing psychiatric related symptoms.

This position will work within the following police departments: South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Narragansett, & Richmond.

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Conduct level of care and crisis assessments to clients and non-clients in a variety of settings including homes, shelters, street outreach, etc. Response to active Police and Fire scenes required with safety protocols.

Treat consumers with respect.

Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.

Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM V TR).

Perform and record mental status examination.

Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others.

Collect pertinent data from appropriate collateral sources in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.

Develop and present, verbally and in writing, a clear clinical formulation based on behavioral data and relevant theory while incorporating psychosocial and family issues.

Use psychiatric consultation and intervention when clinically appropriate.

Use knowledge to decide appropriate levels of care in order to refer to various points in the continuum of care.

Receive and evaluate all appropriately referred clients with behavioral health needs and make appropriate recommendations regarding treatment and hospitalization according to established clinical protocol.

Provide supportive counseling as necessary to consumers, family and/or significant others.

Consult and make recommendations to the hospital Emergency Department Attending Physician on the appropriate disposition of psychiatric crises of TPC consumers.

Be flexible in regard to providing services within the timeframe and schedule required to best support the Police Department and the needs of the community.

Work closely with and provide education and training (individual and/or group) to pretrial services, community agencies, the police departments, the fire departments, and other first responders.

Provide and coordinate with fire, police and first responders for triage and assessment services for individuals in the community experiencing a psychiatric crisis and community-based outreach for non-emergent cases-as assigned and/or identified.

Identify and develop diversion opportunities and/or hospitalization for identified persons.

Advocate on behalf of individuals as needed, with landlords, courts, families, treatment teams [if applicable] and for the individual themselves.

Initiate treatment referrals for intake appointments as well as advocate for necessary resources or availability within existing treatment team, if applicable.

Work closely with TPC Acute Care Programs – when applicable for coordination of care.

Facilitate collaborative relationships with the police departments, the fire departments, and other first responders. Identify and develop training opportunities as appropriate for same, as assigned.

Serve as a liaison for Community Diversion with the local community agencies.

Represent the Community Diversion program in both internal and external meetings for the organization as assigned.

Support the team’s daily delivery of service. Meet program goals/standards of care in accordance with Center policies and BHDDH (Behavioral Healthcare Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals) regulations.

Treat consumers with respect; promote their dignity, accept their values and lifestyles, and maintain their confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.

Be flexible in providing services within the time frame and schedule required to best support the Police departments and the communities’ needs.

Perform record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements.

Complete required assessment, hospitalization and emergency certification forms, progress notes and grant related data tracking as applicable.

Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.

Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner.

Attend trainings, case presentations and conferences.

Maintain cooperative relationships with Center staff, consumers, community agencies and the public.

Communicate with various local agencies and other departments or teams at The Center.

Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.

Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Human Services field or RN required.

Two years of relevant experience in direct care with the psychiatrically disabled population and/or in a similar social service agency.

LMHC or LICSW preferred. Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) eligibility required.

Valid driver's license and insured auto required.
